It's quiet around here these days in At the foot of the hill

Nothing too much going on except for my resolve to get up and out every morning. I go out somewhere around seven with my new walker. Down the hall to the elevator and then to the front door and out. I cross the drive way, head around the end of the garages and across the bridge to the Event Center, turn left, cross the street an take the sloped cement path down to the lake. Once there, I take another left onto the lake path and join the other walkers/joggers/bikers and dog-exercisers who are out at the same time I am. Most will exchange pleasantries when we meet, but a few won’t make eye contact. Then it’s across the mouth of the gulch and on to the next bench, where I usually stop and rest a few minutes. It’s there that our resident ducks gather in hopes of a free breakfast. (Surprisingly, many people bring them bread, even though it is not doing the ducks a favor to feed them.)
The hard part of the route lies ahead so I need a little breather. Not too far along the pathway that is now sloping upward and then a third left takes me to our fairly steep “switchback” and up to our lovely lakeview patio. This offers another nice place to breathe in the lovely morning air before re-entering my building and riding the elevator back up to third floor.
Bob has been going with me most days. He is having some trouble with his right leg where they took the veins out for his heart bypass in January and doesn’t always feel like going for a walk.
I have been following this regimen for more than six weeks now. Soon it will be too dark to go out at seven, not to mention too cold. I’ll have to improvise since I can’t see me out there after the weather turns....
In other news, they are upgrading our apartments and we are to get all new appliances this Wednesday. All the apartments are getting them. Maintenance started replacing them in our building first, numerically. We happen to be 321 of 322.... Last of the first. Oh, well. By now the guys know just what they are doing when they come to change them out. I am especially excited to get new washer/dryer. Mine are not working properly, and haven’t been since we moved in almost seven years ago! Ditto my kitchen stove. And the frig has such a tiny freezer. The new ones (I’ve looked in the ones that have been sitting in the hallway as the installations have come further down the hall…) seem to be a little bigger. The kitchen things will be black and chrome. They put in a new chrome sink awhile back. (It shows every water spot and I find myself having to wipe it down every time I run water…) Guess nothing is perfect. Did I mention that we will also get new flooring in the kitchen.
We will need to empty out a couple of cupboards and the stove drawer before they come. They say we won’t have to worry about the frig. They will move it out into the dining area and plug it in. It will stay there until they have the new one (which has been plugged in and will be cold) in place. Then we can move the contents into the new one and they will take the old one away. I plan to start emptying cupboards tomorrow, a little at a time. Will have to put the stuff in the guest room/office. Shouldn’t be too much of a job.
Until next time.... EM

When I replaced my stove I got a black on. Don't like it because even when you wipe it down you have to keep wiping with another cloth to make it look shiny and not smudged.

We had no choice. Everybody gets the same thing. Most folks I have talked to are not real happy with these appliances. A couple years back the owners hired a "designer" and she had no idea about keeping house in the real world. Our commons area furniture is mostly white couches that are too low for old folks. The "art" on the wall is photos with the color filters, making them look cheap and fakey….. She probable picked out the appliances too. Maybe I'm too picky. Ya' think?

No, I would say the apartment managers are cheap!
