Seems like I am destined to do weekend catch-up entries! Well, at least I’m writing again, so don’t complain! At work we have to do our expenses every two weeks so they can keep a handle on the budget ( their excuse anyway!). This means we have to also check our mileage every two weeks as we get out fuel re-imbursed. This last period was 1402 miles! I got my company car last January (2013) with 3, 493 miles on the clock. As of Friday it read 35, 556. Not bad in 14 months! We change our cars at 75,000 which means in another 18 months I get a new one!
The Health Check project is still ongoing. I have another 9 days to do, last one is on April 1st (seems fitting!). Unfortunately it means stints in hotels for most of them. I have 2 lots of 3 days in the same place, and one of 2 days. I am not going to drive up and down the same road every day causing more 12 hour days, so I will stay in hotels for a couple of nights. After that my Line Manager for my “proper” job has said she will back me in keeping away from them. I have to give credit where it is due. I think the Line Manager I have now, Jill, is probably one of the best I have worked with. She gives a lot of support , regular field visits, and will always back her team in everything. She came with me on Thursday when I had one of my Nurse visits. We aim to see the hospital nurses we get the referrals from every 3 months. It’s the first one she has been to with me, although she has seen several patient visits. As usual after these visits we have a de-brief to see what I am doing wrong and where I can improve. The only criticism she had of me was that I could do with taking more notes as I don’t take that many having a decent memory! Other than that she is well pleased with the way I am going. She is also asking me to take on more responsibility now I am definitely a permanent member of the team. Sadly we are losing one nurse as she is moving away from her territory and there is not a slot where she is going. She used to be responsible doing one of the reports on the database we use, so Jill has asked me to take this on board, as well as being the team “champion” for the iPad (a recent acquisition for the team) and also being the team member on the magazine committee. Coupled with this I am going to be progressing towards my NA2 which is our next level of “promotion”. Quintiles are really big on employee progression and very supportive in that way. That’s why I am really happy with this job.
Lee’s just about back to full fitness now. Getting about on his crutches more again. Ears aren’t so, but not completely clear. Leg seems a lot better too. He’s actually started going out again, which means he will hopefully be going back to Cornwall in the not too distant future! We don’t mind having him here, of course, but do enjoy our own time together!
Dawn, herself, is ailing this week. She’d pretty much had what Lee had and was bunged up with a head cold and sore throat, almost losing her voice, but not quite. She felt much better yesterday and the weather changed for the better. I warned her, just because she felt better not to do too much as she is always usually rushing about doing something or other. I might as well have saved my breath. She went into the garden to start having a spring clean and has pulled a muscle in her back! She’s in agony at the moment and struggling to get around. I’ve made her use a heat pack and also got her some anti-inflammatory gel to rub in, that seems to be easing it a bit. Women! Why don’t they ever listen!!!
As I said the weather has totally changed with warm, dry days replacing the wet, windy ones. SOOOOOO, of course, I just had to get out on the bike yesterday! Went for a nice long ride round the country roads in Rutland, the next county along from us. Really picturesque and ended up at the local beauty spot called Rutland Water, a man-made lake/reservoir that is huge. Sat in the sun, drinking a nice Latte, just people watching. A wonderful way to spend an afternoon. Today has been even warmer and sunnier, but I haven’t been out on the bike. Had to clean out the chickens, take the dogs for a walk, do the shopping, washing-up, hang the washing out. So glad I am not a woman! LOL To be fair we normally do the chickens together and she did help me. The coop does come to bits and she cleaned and dusted the bits after I’d detached them while I cleaned the actual coop and then put it all back together again with fresh sawdust and straw. We still get 3 eggs almost every day, with only occasional misses from one of two hens, Sally or Hettie. Penny NEVER misses!
I saw an advert for a certain American motorcycle that I used to own. The words can be uttered by riders of any marque and will still ring true.
“Life can be forgettable.
It’s easy to be a slave to routine.
Humdrum.
Before you know it, you’re stuck in a job that makes your inner child cry and you welcome a fire drill just to see daylight.
You judge success in likes, mentions and follows as life passes by like some silent movie.
But average doesn’t have to win.
We got this. So forget the forgettable. The Mundane.
The ‘But what will the neighbours think?’
Give middle of the road the middle finger.
Screw it, let’s Ride!”
I say AMEN to that!!!
On that note, bye for now, people.
