Donkey Hotay in Life After 60

English Lit was one of my favorites in school. Some memorable works that made a difference in my life. The Ransom of Red Chief, The Adventures of Mark Twain and Tom Sawyer were among the first of my literary foray. And then the poetry and great works of the likes of Shakespeare, which I will be honest, I still don’t understand and may not fully appreciate.
For a reason that is unclear to me, I leaned more toward the comic side of life. May of had something to do with my upbringing, but it gave me an escape from reality. A parody or satire appealed to me. Yeah, “Mad” Magazine is considered a literary treasure by some!
It’s my escape from reality that I enjoyed back when I was a teenager as well as now. I know one day I may make the trip and not be able to return, but if I do I hope to be lost in some wonderful place like Oz rather than the region of La Mancha. Tilting at windmills!
“While you were tilting at windmills, and chasing rainbows, you missed me.” An original quote by myself. It was written to a girl I had dated, but it also sums up my life. So much time is spent fighting imaginary enemies and looking for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, that we fail to live life and miss, perhaps, the very thing that loves us most. If you will excuse me, I must go feed my Donkey Hotay.
