Does Love Trump Conscience? in Life After 60

No, that is not a political statement. I try to leave politics to the so-called experts. Our exit polls are showing a strong swing in the direction of a moral dilemma.
Conscience, that still small voice that people won’t listen to. And you thought it was the complex of ethical and moral principles that controls or inhibits the actions or thoughts of an individual. I actually picture it as the cartoons with the devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other both whispering, opposite instructions.
Who wins? Actually, Who’s on First! Much like the name of the band on stage. Who’s the band on stage? Yes! Okay back to the discussion. I just inserted the little side track there to show you how easy it is to get lost in your own mind.
Love is a very strong emotion. When you are in love the whole world seems to be in perfect sync. It is like you are walking on clouds and nothing bothers you. Rain off a ducks back. Birds singing. True bliss. But does love override all our other senses? I think so.
I know several people that failed to listen to that little voice inside their head that screamed don’t marry them! But that darn Love Bug had already bitten them. Cupids arrow struck them dead center. And they lost all control of their senses. We like the high we get from being in love. We don’t want to listen to the voice of reason.
It all boils down to what do you want the most? In the case of love, it usually trumps everything. We see the warning signs but we choose to ignore them and run full speed ahead into a disaster of epic proportions. Sometimes I think it is like asking the magic 8 ball a question. “Please concentrate harder and ask again.” If you listen closely you might hear the Songs in the key of life! C# or Bb! And occasionally it is more a minor chord.
