I was born on the 23rd of September 1989 in my maternal grandfathers home in Lahore, Pakistan. The house is located close to the Railway station and when you visit the place you can still see trains moving on top as one needs to cross it from under the train track to reach it.
My paternal grandfathers home which is also our ancestral home is located in the heart of Lahore in the walled city or Old town as some would say. It is near the world-renowned Khalifa Bakery in Mochi Darwaza.
I am a Kashmiri by ethnicity and a Pakistani by nationality but will forever remain a Lahori by heart. As the city mottos scream “Jinaay Lahore ni taqya o jamyaa i nai”. The literal translation being the person who has not seen Lahore is yet to be born but it really means the person who has not seen Lahore hasn’t yet lived.
