i’ve had the weirdest cold. if it weren’t for the sore throat i wouldn’t even think it was a cold. mostly it’s just been nausea, violent shivering and zero energy. i sneezed non-stop for two days but could breathe through my nose. i still can. the old bugger called on thursday and asked if i could move some things around because he had another load of wood being delivered but i had to tell him i could try but i don’t know how long it would take as i was having trouble just standing up. i didn’t go. i’m used to not feeling 100% but that was pretty extreme for a couple of days there. probably only because i’m due for another infusion tomorrow.

i went and visited him on saturday. he wouldn’t let me fetch more firewood for him. i could have done it. anyway. a few years back he’d made some salmon for a salmon farm down on the canals and last summer he’d done a bunch of repairs to them since they needed re-painting etc. i think one of them is mounted on the top of a car. last week he had a call from this place saying some kids had smashed up these salmon and could he fix them or make new ones. i think he’s waiting for me to feel better before he starts, when i told him i had hospital on tuesday he said he’d go down to twizel on that day and pick them up. and we could start fixing them on wednesday. i’m going to be absolutely fucked on wednesday. we’ll make a start though.

his heart valve procedure has been put off again, it’ll happen sometime in the next three months. but they talked him through the procedure and what to expect and he seems to be a lot more relaxed about it. there’s no general anesthetic, they just send the valve up through a femoral artery then hitch it into place on the heart. if you live a certain distance from a hospital you can go home the same day but he doesn’t, and i think with his age they’d have kept him for observation anyway.
