We're on the final approach... Yesterday we drove up to Stuart to get our key and do a final check on the apartment (yes, they patched up the paint and replaced the broken tiles and they replaced the hideous light and mirror in the one bathroom with others that work better, so we don't have to do it.) I was supposed to go to the library book sale to help Tom when we got home, but I was in the throes of a rapidly developing migraine so I got John to call in my excuses and I went to bed with the ice pack and left the dinner to look after itself in the oven. It ALMOST burned before I woke up because I was too far asleep to hear the timer go off and it cooked another half hour before I woke up, but we were lucky - the pork was delicious!
I was so sore and tired this morning I didn't want to do a damned thing, but I had to anyway... I loosened up after I'd been moving around for an hour or so and I'm okay now, but I expect I'll be very sore come the morning. My hands do NOT like all the manual labour involved in packing up an apartment, even though I had someone else to help me with at least half of it. John needed to know how many more boxes we needed so this morning I had to go around gathering up last-minute things and assigning them to boxy homes. Then we went to U-haul to get some more, and John shelled out the big bucks for mattress protector bags, and when I asked the guy for a box for the vacuum cleaner he showed me a 'sports equipment (ie. golf bag) box which looked like it would be just right.
We've eaten the freezer down to virtually nothing, so I did well on that too... all that's left now is a roll of ground turkey for turkey burgers tomorrow, and a bag of 'soup veggies' that I guess we'll toss out. I've boxed up everything non-perishable in the pantry, but I don't want to take any cold or perishable items with us - the power isn't being turned on till we get there and there's no room in our car for anything other than the cat carriers, my meds, and the computers. Even that's going to be a squeeze! There's a few things going to go in the trash, but not much. Ever since we found out we were planning to move a month ago, we cut back on the grocery buying, didn't get any more meat, and tried to use everything we could that we already had. And I gave about four boxes of pantry stuff to the church. Monday is moving day and we'll have fast food, and Tuesday we'll have to go shopping to start rebuilding the grocery supply.
