Answering a couple of questions from previous entries in Day to day life from a woman that turned 60 in Oct 2014 and who lives on a farm and Retired on January 2, 2016. I plan to do more sewing, work outside in the yard and just enjoy my retirement.

The distance between my home and dad's home is about 1/2 mile. The distance between my brother's home and dad's home is about 500 ft.

Mom and Dad prepaid for their funerals several years ago. The only additional expense now would be for the dirt work required.

And yes, he appears to be in his "right" mind. Although I believe this decision was based on his sister's husband being buried in a VA cemetery in AK. I do not know this for a fact, but the reasons he does give are not valid. This idea had never been mentioned prior to my uncle's burial. We have seen this "one up" or "equal to" mentally for all of our lives in vehicles purchased, boats purchased, etc, but never a burial spot.
