Due to a number of intersecting coincidences, I've had the opportunity to take more high speed shots lately. The results are... pleasing.
I was down at the pool, subbing for the water sports team's teacher in charge, and when I realised that "sun baking me" translated into "light, lots of", out came the camera and the telezoom lens...

Straight lines

Sharp turn

Capsize drill
Ball control.

The house carnival was the week after; mostly I was at the handball court.

And then I did something... silly.
I bought a new camera, going from my old PEN EP3

to the newer, weathersealed OMD EP5

The new camera has the advantage of (a) being two or three years newer in design than the previous (and a decade's difference if you consider the EP3 as being merely an upgrade of the original EP1), and (b) the lessons learnt thereby. A lot of the things that the OM5 (I'm going to call it that from now on, regardless of what the official licensing says) has are pretty much things that, when I used the EP3, made me go "if only the camera had x". It does now.
Three things have jumped out at me immediately.
Firstly, by mating the camera body with my usual F 1.7 fast lens, I can get decent portrait shots in almost any light:

Caffeine as Neo Dante (DMC 5)

Me as Classic Dante (DMC 4)
Secondly, the improved light sensitivity of the OM5 means that with the F 1.7 lens, I can use the autofocus on magnitude 1 stars (at least; I haven't tried lesser magnitude yet), eliminating the need to manually focus:

Orion, single shot, no post processing.
And finally, since it's weather sealed (when using the kit lens), I can do things like this:

without worrying that I'll damage the camera. As a matter of fact, there was rain all over the front of it when I was done with the photo.
I'm putting the old EP3 to one side now. When Xueling gets older and we can trust her more, I'll put my spare 17mm prime lens on it and let her use it when we go out.
