Notre Dame in The View from the Terrace

I watched the news about Notre Dame in disbelief tonight. I was there almost exactly three years ago in May 2016. It was such an incredibly beautiful building. As the evening wore on the news kept getting worse. At first we only knew there was a fire, then later we saw pictures of the flames, when the spire came down I couldn’t stop the tears, at one point even the towers were in danger.

We have now heard that the two towers have been saved and it is not quite as bad as we thought. The damage is mainly the roof, the spire and one rose window. Most of the sacred objects are safe and, although the spire is lost, they had removed the statues for renovation so they are safe. It can be rebuilt.

This is the photo I took when we were in Paris 3 years ago. I am so grateful that I got to see it.

I'm so glad the damage wasn't worse than it was, although still devastating.

That's lucky the statues were safely out of the way but then I suppose if the restoration wasn't happening maybe the fire wouldn't have started in the first place! It's good there's not as much damage as first thought though.

It’s encouraging so much of it was saved. Hard to even grasp that it’s 800 years old .
