The void of sunshine
punctuates my love for you,
sweet has-been.

The windy departure of small yellow leaves
like the emmigration of so many alien hopes
signify my promises with you,
dear once-was.

Past tense
is where you belong.
Loved, held, fought, fucked.

Future tense
is my exclusive domain.
will smile, will dream, will put into motion.

The tar-slick highway which
you profess to head dangerously down
represents my last bitten off nail for you,
darling by-gone.

The carcinogenic rain that yields
to the chemo of afternoon light
is my departure from you,
lovely never-more.
