A Hodgepodge update in reality

A lot has happened in the last week, although it seems like only yesterday I was sitting here writing. The good news is that the exhaust smell is gone - and I haven't noticed it since sometime on Saturday. Further good news is that I have an appointment with the neurologist tomorrow morning, just to double check that nothing funky is going on in my head (well....any more than normal) and also to find a treatment plan (and hopefully a preventative plan) for my migraines.

Friday was Valentine's day, which I celebrated by having a mini migraine. Yay me. Saturday was me and Devon's 3 year anniversary, which we celebrated by me getting a new tattoo. Devon has "All you need is love" tattooed on her inner left wrist. Since both of us are aware of the jinxes involved with matching tattoos, I came up with the brilliant and fantastic idea of getting "Love is all you need" on the inside of my right wrist. That way, we both contribute to the lyric, and they touch when we hold hands. Additionally, it's the song that she walked down the aisle to at our wedding, so it has even more significance.

On Sunday, we enjoyed a lazy day at home, and Monday (I was off, but Devon wasn't) was spent running errands, doing a few chores and enjoying the peace and quiet before the madness of the week truly began.

I'm extremely happy to say that my term of Biology 101 is almost at an end. I'm not that impressed with the end of the class or my professor's attention to detail. We had to submit the rough draft for our final paper two weeks ago, and the final draft is due this week, with the understanding that we would incorporate the professor's feedback and suggestions in our final draft. I didn't get her comments until today. I could have waited until the weekend to finish the paper, but I hate leaving things like that until the last minute. I'm happy to report that I made the necessary changes, added more references and quotes and submitted the paper a few minutes ago.

At work, we have a new accounts payable manager. From what I've seen so far, he is nice, genuine and sarcastic like me. That can work well in my favor, since i have such a sarcastic personality. His first day was mostly spent in new-hire orientation, and with our Vice President learning the ropes. He was only in the office for an hour or so, but we have a long time to get used to him and learn his specific quirks. I had my second one-on-one with my direct manager today and discovered that we have a love for history in common - and that we both agree that accounting is a lot like history, and part of the fun is learning to unravel what happened and use it to move forward. While I'm still at odds with my manager on many levels, it was good to discover that we had something in common.

I finally relented and joined weight watchers at work. It's under $20 a month, since we get a discount through work. My hope is that, unlike other programs and apps that I've tried, the fact that I'm paying monthly for the service will motivate me to do more and keep on the ball. I'm determined to get back to my pre-wedding, pre-Devon weight of 125. I gained over 75 pounds, and that I cannot tolerate any longer. I love our new exercise bike, I'm committed to circuit training and resistance training, and I get a lot of cardio ever day. I'm going to make this work no matter what.

Other fun over the weekend was the pleasure of talking and reconnecting on the phone with an old friend. We caught up and talked about every subject known to man - it was like the good old days again. In sad news, I found out that my father has prostrate cancer. We don't know how bad it is yet, but given my tumultuous relationship with my father, this news has mixed effects on me. We'll see how it goes, I guess.
