Saying anything may be better than nothing.
Once in awhile I see her mother, working at the little grocer across the street from where I work.
But even to her I choke on asking how her daughter is doing.
When I was a young boy it was obvious how much she admired and looked up to me when I hung around her brothers. It all was so obvious that her brothers would poke fun at me for it. But I remained very cautious with her, I couldn’t hurt her feelings for any reason. I was just a young boy and I didn’t know how to requite the tenderness she showered me with. She was much younger than I was as well.
She often told me how much nicer I was than all the other boys.
Now I see her here and there in our village and I wonder and I wonder.
I am still so quiet and introverted.
