Survival Pizza

This is another product from mypatriotsupply.com and the one I was looking forward to trying the most. I LOVE pizza. I’m like a Ninja Turtle that way. I have had the MRE pizza from bridgeford before (https://www.bridgford.com/readytoeat/product/5817/) and quite honestly I was not too impressed. In fact, I pretty much got what I expected.

So far, all of the products I have purchased, except for the coffee, have been more involved when it comes to preparing them. Nothing has been been “add hot water, let sit 10 minutes and eat” like mountain house or wise or the other backpacking/emergency foods on the market. The pizza was definitely not one to change this either. It’s a kit, and you have to rehydrate the individual components, assemble them and bake them.

While rehydrating the sauce and cheese I worked the dough. Everything was easy enough and smelled quite good. Once I got the dough rolled I added the sauce, cheese and pepperoni (the kit doesn’t come with pepperoni, that was my own thing) and tossed it in the oven. That was easy enough.

Let’s talk about some of the pros of this product, shall we? You can store it for about 10 years. Pizza is a common comfort food in the USA so moral can be greatly improved by merely suggesting it during an emergency. People have reported cooking the “survival pizza” in their oven, on their bbq grill, and over a campfire, so that makes it pretty a versatile product.

Now, for the con. Just one. I did not like it. Maybe it’s because I am kind of a pizza snob. Maybe I had built it up too much in my own head and there was just no way for it (or anything else under the same circumstance) to measure up. Whatever the case, I did not enjoy it. This is the first my patriot supply product that I just flat out did not like and that hurts my heart a little.

In summary, this pizza was fairly easy to make, stores for about 25 years and can be cooked over a camp fire, but I just didn’t enjoy eating it. With that being said, the wife and I have decided to try again and cook it on the grill and over a fire this summer, so I will be buying at least 2 more.
