Spring is on the way in The View from the Terrace

I’m feeling rather fed up tonight. The helpline are having a branch get together and I had been looking forward to it. Then I woke with one of my migraines and the tablets I take have left me feeling totally wiped out. I don’t think I am up to it. They don’t often have these social dos, partners were invited and Hubby even washed the car! Perhaps I should see that as something good came from it at least! I guess if I feel well tomorrow we could go for a drive. The weather has been lovely and spring like for several days. We have even been having our afternoon coffee out on the patio, I can’t remember that happening in February before.

Hubby had a nice birthday. Chris came over for the afternoon. Cat sent him a huge parcel of gifts, a jumper, a lovely shirt and 2 CDs of Brownie Mcghee, one of his favourite blues artists. She spends far too much money on us.

We went to our folk club on Tuesday. Even though I also had a migraine that day, the medication didn’t affect me too badly and I was almost OK by the evening. I even managed to sing 2 songs. One of the members told us he was doing a talk in our village yesterday about a trip down the Colorado River. He asked if we would like to go and we did. It was great, he is a very good speaker. His friend who went with him is disabled and normally uses a wheelchair but they were not able to take it on the boats through the Grand Canyon so a group of them simply lifted him on and off the boats and everywhere else. I found the whole thing inspirational.

I saw the GP for my review of treatment on Wednesday. It was a different GP from the one I usually go to. I like him, he is very thorough and hasn’t got one eye on the time like my regular GP. When I arrived at the surgery he was running 31 minutes late. It was like old times. My last regular GP who left a few years ago was always running quite late but I never minded because once you got in to see her you knew she would listen and take all of the time that was needed. The lady GP I usually see now is the opposite. She never runs late but you feel that, once your 10 minutes are up, she is trying to wind up the visit and I often leave feeling she didn’t listen to all I needed to say. This doctor was like my old one. I would stick to him altogether but I like to see a lady doctor for certain things. I think I may just see both of them depending what the problem is, you are allowed to do that at our surgery. We agreed that I am going to try beta blockers again to get my blood pressure down a bit. I tried them years ago for the migraine but I had some weird side effects. He suggested a different type and starting on a very low dose. I haven’t actually started them yet as I didn’t want to jeopardise the party if there were side effects but it seems I am not going anyway.

In spite of everything I find my mood is lifting now that the weather is more spring like and the days are getting longer. The crocuses are looking really lovely in the garden and I can’t wait to get out there to tidy up after winter and plant a few more things in the flower beds and hopefully a few shrubs where the fir tree used to be.

Here it’s storming and I am getting a migraine too :-( I slept poorly last night and that will trigger one. I really need to sleep :-(
It must be lovely to have crocus blooming. We are still deep into Winter here . I really like your duck !

Yes I find a disturbed night triggers a migraine, also thunder storms. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks. Had a decent sleep and the headache is gone.:-)

I love your Jemima Puddleduck! I have one in spotty Wellies who got knocked over in one of the storms and broke his leg. I glued it and taped it up and put him in a more sheltered spot but he fell over again and cracked the head of another garden ornament! I think I've got an alcoholic duck.
That's such a shame you weren't able to go to the branch get together - I hate having to miss things because I'm ill - it's so frustrating!

I shouldn't complain, I've done well this week getting to the folk club and the talk.
I had to laugh at your alcoholic duck!

I should take him to a meeting soon before he destroys anything else :)

Jemima Puddleduck is so cute. I wish our weather would get to be spring like. We go back and forth between semi-nice and downright cold.
