please, department of education NYC, please give us a snow day tomorrow! i am a very confident driver in the snow, but i do not trust NYC drivers on a clear, sunny day, let alone a shitty, snowy day. it would be much appreciated, since even though we may get to school okay tomorrow, the snow is supposed to continue throughout the day and get worse. you know that the plows dont like to go out until its over and i dont want to dig my car out of a snow pile in order to venture home on the messy highways. please...our students will survive. please give us a snow day if the weather is bad!

my students have no clue about snow day superstitions. when i was in school, we would always wear our pajamas inside out and backwards to "ensure" a snow day. ive heard other rumors about putting 3 ice cubes in the toilet and having to spin around so many times...its all just fun and games. thats gone out of the school system now. they test and prep for tests and do work silently all day. i remember school being quiet, but not SILENT all day (however, now being a teacher, i expect more silence from my students, especially when im giving directions...the constant talking is so obnoxious!) i dunno...i was never a huge fan of school. all i wanted to do was play my instruments and dance. but even in my music classes, my students cant seem to keep quiet for 2 minutes to get direction! anyway...theres so many other things going on that teachers are not allowed to have fun with their students. or maybe there are too many young teachers in the building that are still getting their feet on the ground (like me) that need to be tough to gain respect. i dunno. but it seems like the fun has been stripped out of this school. sigh

so...back to snow day superstitions...

i continue to "educate" my students about these superstitions, but i present them like fact. one fun thing about working with elementary children is that you can tell little white lies and they will believe you. so i told them that the pajamas always worked for me, so they should give it a try. im sure im driving their parents nuts, but i dont care. they and their children drive me nuts every day. have a little fun! its not hurting anyone to wear your PJs inside out and backwards for 1 night.

gotta say, i am so ready for midwinter recess. im just exhausted and it seems like this year is NEVER going to end. i have so much to plan and so much to do. i dont know if ill get everything i want to do done. (that is an awkward sentence...) i feel like i just need a few days to sleep.

my goal for tonight was to get all of my lesson plans written for after break...then i thought id do half of them...now im hoping for a snow day tomorrow so i can write them slowly then lol. some of my plans this week were not good. they were lazy. im becoming a lazy teacher because i dont always have the time or the energy to write these darn plans. i didnt even write plans for my rehearsals this week! my boss didnt ask for them or reprimand me for not sending them to him (im not sure if i need to send him plans or not...he never officially answered that question...) i feel like i do the same thing over and over again sometimes. plus, im writing for 6 different grade levels (pre-k through 5th), so its difficult to get your head around each grade each week. i still am not sure if im doing everything i can for 1st grade, but it is what it is!

alright im going to go clean up what i can so it doesnt magically become 10pm and im falling asleep on the couch.

night PB.
