The landlord wanted to know what colour/s we wanted in the apartment RIGHT NOW and the labour for painting was going to be $300, so I pulled the plug. I can't decide what colours I want for the next five years in five minutes time. We'll do it later, in stages, I'll do as much as I can myself, and I'll live with what's there in the meantime... I don't think the colours that are already there are particularly hideous. They're not ones I would have chosen, but I can live with them... if the landlord gets the red marker streaks off the living room walls, I'll be happy.
It's not realistic to expect perfection from the new apartment... but I'm disappointed that I'm going to have to live with another old grotty apartment because we don't have the money to fix it up. I don't know how much fixing up I can reasonably expect myself to be able to do at this point anyway... I can see that little enclosed front yard as a beautiful mini-courtyard in front of my craft room window, but that's a project for some time in the future. We have to dig up the round white 'river stone' as soon as we can as a matter of safety - I could easily break my neck on it because my balance is pretty lousy on uneven surfaces, and it's right by the front door. But making it pretty can wait.
Of course I want everything NOW... but I'm not going to get it. Wondering what's the most important fixes and what can wait indefinitely... wondering what colour/s of paint will neutralise the white-and-grey cabinetry. I totally fail to understand the appeal of grey anything in a home...
Good things, good things, good things... NO STAIRS. A laundry room of my own. It has a washer and dryer in it but he said they were left by the tenant rather than provided for them, so if they break we're on our own... NO STAIRS... an enclosed patio for us and the cats... A private yard space we can make our own when we eventually have the funds to pay for it... no downstairs neighbours to shake the building with their stupid music... a driveway of our very own so we have a guaranteed parking space right in front of our door... the stove is ordinary in the extreme, but the fridge is a side-by-side with an icemaker in the door which looks relatively new...
