You have your own personal hinterland
Hiding all the things about you that I'm yet to understand
Those traumas and trifles that have moulded you
Into the person that has me both beguiled and confused
One day, you may trust me enough to let me in
Shine a light in to the darkness, emotional spring cleaning
But for now your past is a foreign country for which I have no passport
Detection of hints of clues and supposition is all I have to go on, to which I can resort
Its the first time, I've felt like this about someone with such a pre history
Where so much of what has left a mark remains such a mystery
I guess we aren't that young anymore, so its nothing other than normal
So any perceived or imagined reticence on your part is quite understandable
In many respects as well, it has nothing to do with me
Whatever you do or don't share is fine, naturally
I just want to know everything there is to know about you
But then I guard access to my own personal hinterland too.
