I've neglected to keep you all properly updated, and for that I apologize. With the news that Open Diary is officially shutting down, I was reminded that I have a blog here that I might like to write in.

We've actually had a couple of big changes take place in the last few months.

Just before Thanksgiving, Eric was offered a new job with a great company. He graciously accepted the offer and has been enjoying his new career and schedule. Previously Eric was an assistant store manager for a major retail chain. The hours were awful and had been taking a toll on him and the entire family. Now he is an Underwriting Analyst for a medical malpractice insurance company. Corporate hours means he is home every evening for dinner, home every night, home every weekend, and home every holiday. He's even able to help get the kids up and ready for school every morning. It's been wonderful.

And hey- speaking of kids...

I'm happy to say that K has been officially placed in our home as a foster child for the purpose of adoption. I'm also happy to say I can now tell her you name (Kayla!) and show you her beautiful face. Well, in theory. I haven't quite figured out how to share pictures on this site yet. Hmm. Oh, I think I see now... but I will wait and just do a whole entry of pictures another day.

In other news, we're having a lovely winter. I know sarcasm is difficult to detect in text, but trust me, it's there. The kids are home again due to extreme cold wind chill temperatures, and will almost certainly be home tomorrow as well. There is a small glimmer of hope that they'll be back on Wednesday, but I won't hold my breath. I try to be like most moms and appreciate "snow days." But honestly? They are hard when it's cancelled due to cold instead of snow. They can't exactly go outside and play, so they stay inside and annoy. Each other. Me. Even the dog. Haha. Plus straying from the normal routine is difficult for Austin, so I would just rather we didn't have to do that a whole lot.

In the meantime, there are a lot of Disney movies playing on the television for Austin's viewing/listening pleasure, and the girls (who are sharing a room) stay pretty occupied with the tablets they got for Christmas. Play a game here, watch a show there, take a break for a card game or to read a book, and back at it again. Since it's not a daily thing, I'm totally okay with it. When you're on day 4, day 5, of being out of school, it becomes about keeping the peace and keeping your sanity.

Time to let the pup out into the snow for a minute or two. Brrrrr.
