Grumpycat and Scaredycat in Another Open Diary refugee

I'm feeling really cranky tonight... must be PMS. The cats have been being little pains in the rump lately because they're upset about the move and all the people coming and going to get ready for it. Our landlord came over yesterday afternoon to measure the kitchen with the handyman, and Silver disappeared the instant he knocked on the door. She didn't come out for dinner... she didn't come out for her favourite toy... she didn't even come out for catnip or treats, and she's a cat who's totally driven by her stomach! We crawled around on the floor peering under and behind every piece of furniture and kitty hiding place without finding her, so I knew she had to be in the one place we couldn't possibly spot her - in the empty wall space behind the kitchen cabinet and next to the stove. I was going to just leave her be, but John was worried that she might be stuck back there or overheated because I'd been using the oven to cook our dinner and it radiates quite a lot of heat... so he physically dragged the stove out of its slot. Boy was it GROSS under there! I got the broom and cleaned it up, washed the billion cat toys that had been under there... and then once it was clean enough to step on, I climbed in there and physically dragged Silver out by the scruff. Then I put duct tape over the closet doors so that she can't open them again. We used to keep the doors duct taped when the girls were little, but the last few years we haven't bothered... the only reason to do it again now is that I'm really worried about her disappearing into that hidey hole on moving day and being lost. If we were going to be here longer I'd do what we should have done all along and nailed a board over the hole, but there's no point now. Not when we're moving in roughly 3 weeks, and the kitchen's going to be ripped out the minute we're gone!

On the moving note, John took me to get some coloured tape to label the boxes today. I wanted to get a roll that said FRAGILE but Office Depot didn't have any... and their coloured labels cost a FORTUNE. Then I saw they had coloured masking tape on sale, so I got six different coloured rolls of that, and it'll do the job. Plus since it's masking tape I can write on it. Tony scribbled on the boxes as he packed them but it's way too hard to read and the only way I know what's on the boxes is because they're sitting in different rooms. I hadn't thought of colour-coding but our friend Allecia said that it made her last move MUCH easier... so coloured masking tape it is. Other moving supplies cost a fortune at Office Depot too ($26 for a box of plain newsprint for packing stuff?!) so we'll have to go to the Uhaul store to get them some time in the next week. We've only got boxes and clear tape, so we couldn't pack anything fragile yet except the pictures, which Tony packed standing up in a box all together. I hope nothing happens to that particular box - it has ALL my wall art in it!
