There's always a gimmick... in The Brickhouse Chronicles...Part II

I never realized how many games are required in this lifelong battle o' the bulge. Over the years, I've created personal incentive programs for every 5 lbs lost, a short-lived charm bracelet reward (that shit was obnoxious) and signing up for dozens of physical challenge events. I guess gimmicks, trinkets and incentives are a necessary part of this journey...especially since it NEVER ends for most of us. I will never be "done" with my weight loss quest. Recovering food addicts are never cured.

2014 brought a new shiny toy into my life. Diet Bet. The premise: bet that you can lose 4% of your start weight in 4 weeks. The winners split the pot. Diet Bet takes a nice chunk for themselves, but there is still potential to make some decent change. I joined two bets last month, lost 16 lbs and turned my $50 into $83. Diet Bet won't make me rich...but it will make me thin! Well, not really...but less rolls in the bakery, for sure.

I suppose every outcome has some "win" factor. Even if you lose your bet, you most likely still lost weight. Combine my need to lose weight with my desire for all things gambling, I am in heaven (for now). My February bet starts tomorrow. I hate to lose money, so that threat alone has kept me away from cookies and cans of frosting. Success!
