MP 30 and the Herzog Work Train at ORSA in Tales of the Jointed Track

I used to be able to pull off near MP 30, when I did trouble shooting. Can’t now, due to new high curbing and development. I got as close as I can. You’ll hear the Dog greeting from the Brooklyn Vet Clinic/Boarding Kennel across the street…

The Herzog work train is at Orsa, about 1 mile due northwest of this location. Herzog is a contractor. BNSF has cut a lot of Train, Engine & Yard work trains, as well as Maintenance of Way staffed work trains. Is it cheaper?, don’t know. Eliminated crew starts and assigned trains. Jim wasn’t too happy with them, because they were dogging and could have gotten out and did some work and cleared trains at Orsa or the Castle Rock house track or the siding. That train would have easily fit, plus the could shove unto the Acme Brick spur. They will probably pick up the scrap spikes and rail anchors, the brown pile you saw, and possibly the ties as well. Oh well, not my battle anymore.

It's fascinating to see the country you talk about, but that engine needs a scrubber. I believe it's called a gross poluter.

The old dog needs injector replacement and/or a tune. It is easy. I don't know their maintenance.. It is a roots blown. Thinking a 567 Cu.In . I'll bet they bought a GP-7 or 9 and modified it.
