Jim worked the Big Lift Section out of Big Lift, when I was on the local. When Jon Riggs became the Track Supervisor on the Brush Sub, Jim became the Section Foreman for the gang. He was that for the last 3 or 4 years before I retired, in 2012.

Ray Palacio was the Track Supervisor and retired in June of 2013. Jim got the Track Supervisor position and will retire at the end of this year, 2018. He told me he can hardly wait.

The pictures I took are from the parking lot, are from Castle View High School. To preface this, this is on a Wednesday, the 25th of June. I just picked up the Denali, that had a “particulate matter sensor” failure. I guess it shorted and went to ground. Geez, sounds like being on a locomotive :p .

I decided to take videos and I see photobucket does not support videos anymore. I’ll figure it out. Back to the story. At Wolfensburger Road, I was videoing there and during my narration a Hy-Railer goes over the bridge. I didn’t think anything of it, and went down Prairie Hawk , stopped near MP 30 took a vid, then thought, I’ll head to the school. The school is around Orsa siding. When I hired out in 1973 ORSA was in the middle of nowhere, and Castle Rock was probably 5 notches more above that status.

I parked in the parking lot, schools out for summer. There is Jim Warner. I climb onto the guard rail and shout over the fence “JIM!!! JIM WARNER”. He’s looking around, I said “Over here, in the parking lot, Bob Terry Big Lift Local, Mentor”. Jim acknowledges, and walks up to talk to me. He was working “joint” with a Herzog work train. This would be a
BOX 4 WORK BETWEEN (MP or Station) AND (MP or Station) ON ( Main and/or Mains)TRACK ( Timetable named designation) Subdivision/Branch
and a:
BOX 18 JOINT WITH
Gang Number, train or trains, or another Gang Foreman
BETWEEN (MP or Station) & (MP or Station)
BETWEEN (MP or Station) & (MP or Station)

Click on the link hopefully it will play for you. It worked for me. It will open up in another tab and will keep your Prosebox window open.

How nice to see an old friend. Thank you for sharing these bits of your life on the rails with us. It's so easy to "see" what you are talking about this way.

:-)

I have to shake my head in amazement that the 'Colorado' I adore has so much railroading history - which I also adore!

It's the people that make the railroads run, and Mr. Warner - and yourself! - are a big part of my fascination with the 'flanged wheel on steel rail'. (a tem used by the late David P. Morgan - TRAINS magazine Editor Emeritus.)

I like your video and the voice-over, too! :-)
