I’m glad Prosebox is not closing after all, but I wish I had known that before going back to Open Diary and paying for a year’s subscription! I’m usually much slower getting things organised but I wanted to sort out what I was going to do as I didn’t want to post entries and then just lose them when PB closed and it sounded as though it could close quite soon. I’m not sure what I will do now. I’m definitely staying here but I may cross post at OD as well, perhaps it’s just as well to have a back up. I may even post different things, haven’t decided yet, but definitely not leaving here. It’s sad that at least one friend has deleted her diary here and gone. Hopefully she will come back.

Last Monday we went to see the poppies at Hereford cathedral. They have a beautiful display of the poppies that were at the Tower of London. It’s called the Weeping Window. I found it very moving.

Inside the cathedral there was a display of work done by children in local schools about the first world war.

I loved the picture of the sunset behind the barbed wire and the crosses, and noticed it was from our local village primary school.
I spent a while reading the essays by the children, they showed a very good understanding of what those young men must have gone through, young men who, in many cases, were only a few years older than they are.

I had thought of going to London to see the poppy display when it was at the Tower but, for a number of reasons, it wasn’t possible, so I’m really happy that they brought them here to Hereford.

That's beautiful and I'm so glad today's kids have a good understanding of WW1 - as time goes by there's a fear its impact will be lessened so it's good to know that's not necessarily the case.
