In 1992 I was on cruise on the USS Saratoga, flying with the world famous Scorpions of VAQ-132. The Bosnian fiasco hadn’t started yet.

In port in Naples I picked up a copy of Baladas en Español. Go figure. An American sailor in an Italian port buying a CD by a Swedish pop group singing in Spanish. The three or four Italian phrases I still remember I have been told I speak in a decidedly Neapolitan accent.

All part of life’s rich tapestry.

Well, I got on the flight schedule. My instructor is still being all squirrelly about exactly what time we go up on Thursday. Haven’t got a confirmation for Friday.

Strange weather here. Actually the strangest winter in 10 years. We are in our 5th melt of the season. Usually by this time of the year everyone is just hibernating. It is going to be in the 60s on Thursday. Ridiculous. I might go to the beach after flying. I never took my beach bag out of the trunk last fall. Literally been floating around in my trunk since September.

I know I have to let the memory of Audrey fade. I’m just not good at letting things go.

But I’m pretty good at flying, so I got that going for me. And there is a pretty decent demand for CFIs. So I also have that going for me.

And chicks dig pilots. So I got that going for me.

Everything else.

Yo no lo se.
