Still Sick in Day by Day

I’m having a difficult time shaking this illness. It’s settled deep in my chest. If I can’t shake it by next week, it’s back to the doctor I go.

Not much else to report because I just haven’t done that much. I forced myself to go to the ballroom dance fundraiser last Sunday. I wanted to skip it, but as president, I couldn’t. Longest 3 hours of my life. Everyone was lovely and welcoming but when you feel crummy, everything is a huge effort.

I was so pleased to see Roy Moore defeated in Alabama. The drum beat is rolling. Republicans should take notice: backing sexual harassment is not a smart political move. November 2018 is going to right a lot of wrongs, methinks.

I’ve not done any holiday baking but have managed to get cards out. I still need to plan Christmas dinner. I’m thinking I’ll do a beef tenderloin, mashed potatoes, broccoli, acorn squash from the garden, and rolls. Not sure on dessert. Probably custard pie and Christmas cookies, if I feel up to it. If not, I’ll just buy something fancy.

I made an online comment on a NYT article on FB. Within minutes, I had thousands of “likes” and a few angry comments. It was all good until a few men got very aggressive, moving from repeatedly calling me a “snowflake” (seems to me that THEY are the overly-sensitive ones but whatever) to suggesting I die. I left the thread, realizing that my full name was being disclosed. I don’t need crazy people knocking on my door.

I’m also dealing with plumbing issues in the house. The plumber got the back of the house flowing again (front is fine) but it seems I need the pipes cleared with a high-pressure cleanout, which will run just under $1000 (that’s in addition to the $322 I paid already). The cast iron is corroded inside and the diameter has shrunk to a few inches. The pressure wash will open them back to their original size. It’s not an emergency situation, but one I need to address over the next couple of months.

I’ve been keeping a close eye on KittyCat. The red tail hawk is back in the neighborhood and its big enough to carry her off. KittyCat’s appetite is insatiable. She gobbles food and cries for more. She came into our lives as skin and bones and now she’s rather plump, so we’re cutting back on her food and she is not happy about it. I think its an eating disorder from when she was starved, so I’m trying not to get impatient with her incessant cries for food, but stopping to give her positive reinforcement that does not include food is time consuming and I’m always short for time. It’s a challenging balancing act but I’m doing it. I don’t know that I’ll ever get her over the food anxiety, though.

I hope all my Jewish friends are having a wonderful Hanukkah!

I hope you're right about 2018.
Sorry about the plumbing trouble - good to know what's wrong though and how to fix it. Sounds better than digging the whole thing up and replacing it.
Your menu sounds great. I'm kind of lonesome for Christmas cookies.

ConnieK woman in the moon ⋅ December 13, 2017

If you would just move down here, we could bake cookies together! Can't dig it up (the pipes are under the house slab), but it's a lot cheaper (by about $10K) than replacing the plumbing by running new pipes around the house (not to mention the crappy look).
If the Republicans continue their rogue cowboy antics, they can't expand their base. As much as they cannot believe it, they did NOT win the popular vote. The electoral gods went their way but lightning may not strike twice. PA voters, for instance, are very disenchanted.

Shattered December 13, 2017

Feel better soon!

ConnieK Shattered ⋅ December 13, 2017

Thank you, Storm. How have you been?

Shattered ConnieK ⋅ December 13, 2017

Good, but tired. I work overnights now and it’s kicking my butt.

ConnieK Shattered ⋅ December 13, 2017

Night work is hard. I'm a night owl, but come 3 or 4 am and I'm toast.

Shattered ConnieK ⋅ December 13, 2017

Yep, I’m usually the same way.

Wranglingal December 13, 2017

I truly hope you will get to feeling better real quick as the holiday is right around the corner. Ouch about the post you did but you can report to the FB if it gets to threatening.
Good Luck on the plumbing issues, at least you are able to wait til the holiday is over.
GET WELL SWEETIE!

ConnieK Wranglingal ⋅ December 13, 2017

Thanks. I hope I can be better in a few days, but I've been saying that for a while now.

GypsyWynd December 13, 2017

Feel better already!!!
Sorry about the plumbing issues.
We're having Christmas dinner with Ellie at the home.

ConnieK GypsyWynd ⋅ December 13, 2017

Oh, goody. Institutional food for Christmas. You ARE a saint!

GypsyWynd ConnieK ⋅ December 14, 2017

Yeah, what a treat.

Sending you healing vibes! Good luck with the plumbing issues -- they're bad enough to have to deal with when one is well, never mind sick.

I'm on FB, but on a friends-only basis. Once in a blue moon I get into a debate there or on Twitter, but only if it's a real debate. I refuse to feed the trolls (or bots).

I am cautiously optimistic about 2018 and am doing what I can to help causes and candidates I believe in. I contributed to the Jones campaign several times, mailed postcards to voters, and donated to help get them rides to the polls. This week I've been calling on my MoCs to defend net neutrality and to oppose the tax bill -- including delaying the vote until Jones is seated, just as they'd delayed votes until GOP Scott Brown had been seated after the MA special election in 2010.

ConnieK a mote, floating ⋅ December 14, 2017

I'm working on net neutrality and contacting Rubio & Buchannan re: the AL vote, reminding them that the drum beat is rolling and constituents are watching their votes.

a mote, floating ConnieK ⋅ December 14, 2017

Thanks for your involvement! You probably already know this, but just in case you don't -- the net neutrality fight isn't over. I've called Rubio, Webster, and Nelson (because he should know his constituents are involved, too) urging them to use the Congressional Review Act to pass a "resolution of disapproval" reversing the FCC's vote.

And a bunch of state AGs (CA, DE, HI, IL, IA, KY, ME, MD, MA, MS, NY, NC, OR, PA, VT, VA, WA) are suing the FCC. Something to call Bondi about.

ConnieK a mote, floating ⋅ December 14, 2017

Who woulda thunk that RUBIO would flip on the tax bill? He's never been a champion of the poor. Maybe his Scrooge-like heart is softening?
The idea is so unpopular, I don't think it'll stand in the harsh light of lawsuits.

a mote, floating ConnieK ⋅ December 15, 2017

There's a self-serving method to his madness. Listen to what Lawrence O'Donnell has to say about Rubio here, starting at the 4:15 mark.

Couldn't get it to play after the commercial. I suspect Rubio is thinking of the presidency. Rubio can pander to the working poor, using his Hispanic roots, but his record speaks for itself. He stands on his mother's shoulders and punishes those who work hard in her profession (maid). I wrote to him once and told him he was a disgrace to his people. I don't trust that slippery snake. At all.

a mote, floating ConnieK ⋅ December 15, 2017

That's the gist of it, and I agree with you.
Rubio is now a yes on the tax bill because the conference committee agreed to give low-income families ... wait for it ... $300.

ConnieK a mote, floating ⋅ December 15, 2017

They also got a $1400 child care credit, I believe. Rubio is indeed now a yes, which is what I expected. His grandstanding is typical of the party these days. Cynical, deliberate planning. As I said, he's a snake in the grass.

Ferret Mom December 14, 2017

I'm sorry you have been sick for so long. Things deep in the chest can linger for a long time.

Sounds like you are doing a good job with Kitty Cat. :)

ConnieK Ferret Mom ⋅ December 14, 2017

Thanks. I wish I could shake it, and I know I'm improving...I just wish we could move the process along a little faster.
Thanks about KittyCat. She has issues. We just act like nothing's wrong.

WildflowerHeart December 15, 2017

I hope you are feeling better soon!!

ConnieK WildflowerHeart ⋅ December 15, 2017

Thanks. I feel a bit better each day. :)

QueenSuzu December 16, 2017

Hoping you are feeling better by now. Plumbing problems---ugh! I will never forget the hot August morning we woke up to water coming in our basement from a burst pipe that ended up being our responsibility.

ConnieK QueenSuzu ⋅ December 16, 2017

Broken pipes are the worst!

Reading_Blankie 📚 December 17, 2017

I am SO HAPPY that Roy Moore is out. He's still trying to make bruhaha I think though, demanding a recount and everything. I think this year has been such a hodgepodge of scandals; it's so depressing!

Hope the sickness is better. BLEH.

A couple of years ago, our dishwasher broke and flooded our apartment. Goodness, it was a hot mess. They had to bring up the carpets and everything. We stayed at my mom's(eww) for a week though and that helped us out.

ConnieK Reading_Blankie 📚 ⋅ December 17, 2017

Roy Moore is going to grandstand a while longer. He lost and everyone accepts that except him and his few loony loyalists. I think you should prepare for more insanity to come. Elections will balance things out but for now, it's going to be a bumpy ride of outrage after outrage.
This illness is a stinker. Just when we think we've got it beat, it starts again! Thank you for the good wishes. :)
