December's First Saturday in Day to day life from a woman that turned 60 in Oct 2014 and who lives on a farm and Retired on January 2, 2016. I plan to do more sewing, work outside in the yard and just enjoy my retirement.

Just thought I’d add a picture this morning and did over in Beta OD, but can’t seem to post one here. It’s a picture of the big dog, Polka Dot. He showed up several years ago and has turned out to be a good watch dog. He can make most men that he doesn’t trust and dare to walk or pull up to the house, back up or sit in their vehicle. He has mellowed over the last couple of years although he still only grants some people access to the yard. Thanksgiving Day and any day I’m expecting guests, he usually spends his time in my garage on his blanket. He spends as much time as he can in the garage on his blanket and when I wash it and it isn’t where he is expecting he pretty much looks at me with disappointment. Polka Dot is our only canine these days. Owen and A have a young dog which is part Lab. He is afraid of everything and everyone. Even the cat, Shazaam, can make him run back up the hill. He can be entertaining however since he is afraid of so many things, he barks. A lot when someone is here. He barks the most and the steadiest at Dude. Max (the Lab pup) will stand at the tail gate of Dude’s truck and bark at him when he is at the front of his truck. Telling Max to shut up does absolutely no good and he can get on your very last nerve in a short time.

So I went to see Dad on Thursday and took him some batteries for his electric toothbrush. It still wouldn’t work and I was getting a bit annoyed as he had me putting the batteries in it over and over and was sure I was putting them in wrong. Ahhhh! Another sign that “he’s back” is absolute certainty that you have to be wrong. I finally got him to focus on the main reason for my visit and that was to help him with his Christmas cards for the family. He signed the cards and I put the names on the envelopes. I still have to put the money in each card that he wanted and since I made a list of names and amounts I just need to get brother to write me a check so I can get the cash needed for the cards. Now to find MY address book so I can get started on my Christmas cards. I have cut back extensively the cards I mail but I still need the address book to do them.

I hooked up the outside lights yesterday to activate them for the Christmas season. J was impressed and I’ll try to take a picture or two one of these evenings and post in my diaries. I worked on another tomato cage Christmas tree this morning and think I’m done with it except for taking it outside and finding just the right spot for it. Of course that “spot” must include the ability to hook it to another string of lights. My thinking is to put it next to the Merry Christmas wooden sign.

I plan to start on the inside decorations this weekend with the tree. J can’t hardly wait until the tree goes up and I usually don’t put it up until the middle of December but since I have the decorations out of the attic and the box with tree is next to the sofa, I really need to do something with it to get it out of the LR floor. If I’m going to do something with it, I may as well put it up and get it decorated. Not sure that I’ll put decorations in the areas that I’d have to use the tall ladder to get to set them up and get them situated. I may change my mind, or may let O help me. I need to check with A to see what she thinks about him being on a ladder up that high. He’s like a squirrel outside and climbs on stuff he shouldn’t, but still I do not want anyone getting hurt or falling.

I did do some stocking stuffer shopping after I left the Nursing Home Thursday. Dad insisted that I go to the Walmart in his direction and then if they didn’t have any, go to the one down here. I went to both and neither had the security system he was wanting me to buy. The reason? As I told him many times, it was a black friday thing, and it said in the ad that there would only be 3 per store. But still I ran all over looking for something I knew wouldn’t be there. Oh there were security systems available but for much more money than the black friday system. And I don’t think he realizes that the system itself is not all that is needed/required. I know I don’t have the know how, but I do know that a WIFI signal from his house is NOT going to reach my house. AND Internet and a router would have to be purchased. And I’ll bet that won’t be all that is required and then it still may not be what he’s wanting or expecting. Truthfully, I don’t want it to be me doing the monitoring at all. I need to remind brother about contacting the actual security system company and see if this ball can’t get rolling. They monitor, they fix, they install, etc. Yes, it costs a bit for the start up, but it will be a monthly fee that would be the same cost for the monthly internet service. Oy Vay, I need to text brother right now.

I am going to save and publish this and do just that and text brother. Take care and God Bless

I'm working on my decorations today also. It usually takes me 2-3 days now to get them all done the way I want. I would love to se a pic of your lights.

I'm decorating today too. Our space is so small I can only do small displays that fit on stands and chests or the wall inside the apartment. I do have a small area in the hallway outside the door that I do a little more. Will set some village ornaments and maybe some lights along the ledge of the wainscoting and Santa & sleigh on the end table I have out there. Big red bows on the wall and door. Nativity on the stand just inside the door. Etc. No tree except the tiny one that goes with the village... No prize winner here, but maybe a little spirit.

I'd planned on cards this week, but I'm under the weather, so it will have to wait.
