Snow! in Diary

Mam and Dad arrived on Friday evening and we just stayed in, having a few drinks and chatting. I had a roller derby game in the morning so didn’t want to get too drunk or have a late night.

Saturday we got up and it was very cold. Dad drove us to the roller derby venue and the car park was like an ice rink, I can’t believe they didn’t treat it. We saw one bloke driving round the corner too quickly and he ended up mounting the pavement and crashing into a signpost! It’s a good job there weren’t any people there.

Mam and Dad have never seen me play roller derby before, and I’ve been off skates for three months so I wasn’t at my best, but they say they enjoyed it and was nice for them to see what I do. It was meant to be a friendly intermediate game, but the other team had a bloke who plays for Team England…I wouldn’t really count that as intermediate! So they beat us by about 150 points. But hey, I wanted to keep my hand in and remind myself why I play, before I fall out of the habit and I did have fun which was the important thing.

Dad took a photo of me standing next to Mam; I’m normally about five inches taller than her, but my skates add another four inches so I’m towering over her!

We went home and Dave came over in the evening, so we stayed in and had a few drinks again.

Sunday I was supposed to go for my weekly dog walking visit and then Annette had invited me, Mam and Dad over for Sunday dinner. Unfortunately we awoke to snow, eight inches deep. My road hadn’t been treated; no grit, no ploughs, nothing. So we weren’t driving anywhere!

Tilly loved the snow and was bounding around like a puppy, she was SOOOO happy!

What we did instead was walk to the pub, which was just 0.5 miles away, and had their Christmas menu, which was only £10 for two courses. I had the butternut squash, sweet potato, cheese and cashew nut roast with veggies and Yorkshire pudding (they had red cabbage, I LOVE red cabbage, but you don’t see it often enough.) followed by apple crumble with custard. MY WORD, none of us could move for about an hour afterwards and Dad couldn’t even finish his beer! Criminal!

We passed the time watching people in the car park having snowball fights before heading back home and chilling out for the rest of the day.

Monday, I had to go to work. Here I am scraping the snow off my car so I could drive in. It took about an hour for me and Dad to dig me out as it was all round the car as well.

My road :o(

All in all, it was a chilled out and relaxing weekend. BONUS, my Mam brought me TWO advent calendars. One with Cadbury’s chocolate and one with a Yankee candle every day! As it was 10 days late, I have a lot of catching up to do. I do enjoy a good advent calendar, and I love Cadbury’s chocolate and Yankee candles, so this made me very happy.

Here are a few more lovely snow photos.

Dad with a giant snowman, anatomically correct. We didn’t build him, we met him on a walk and I thought he deserved a photo.

My washing line, with snow all the way round.

This is my daily walk at work.

Frozen pond.

Our post boxes like to wear their hats at jaunty angles.

Outside my office.

Wow - you guys really got tons of snow!!! We got a little bit but it mostly just froze and now we are back to rain again... Sigh!
I don't mind it being cold, it's the damp I find depressing!

Yeah the West Midland were hit HARD. I would rather have rain than snow, at least it's easier to drive in!

Wow!!! What a lot of snow! We don’t get a lot where I live(southern USA) so our 7 inches last weekend was the most we have had in years so this puts us to shame haha! Glad you had fun!

I didn't think guys could play derby? You look great in your gear!
Also I hope the snow is gone by the time I get back on Sunday!

Men and women are on separate teams officially, but for friendly games, anyone from any team can turn up. It makes it interesting because you get to play with people you’ve never met and, for us women, it makes us stronger when we get knocked over by big men!

Luckily the snow has all gone now, hurray!
