Yard Work, Tulip and Lily planting in Day to day life from a woman that turned 60 in Oct 2014 and who lives on a farm and Retired on January 2, 2016. I plan to do more sewing, work outside in the yard and just enjoy my retirement.

I had waited for Thursday for several days since the weather forecast was saying the temps would get up to the low 70s. I had a list of many things I wanted to get done outside before the rain, cooler (cold) weather and Ol Man Winter sets up house. I did just that on Thursday. I mowed/mulched leaves and grass and those hardy wild onions. Cleaned out the little corn patch and tried to til it but it really needed stuff burned. I got the burning started and pulled up the dead tomato plants, pepper plants, and just kept going. I was whooped by late afternoon when cousin came down. (He arrived Tuesday afternoon). He always eats supper here when he is down and I fixed the frozen Lasagna that he’d brought a trip or two ago, a salad, and garlic toast. Thankfully he went back to Dad’s house at 8 instead of his usual 9 departure and I did what I needed to do to shut down the house and went to bed.

Friday morning I took J for another blood draw for the A1C test and we got home around 11. Then I kept waiting for cousin to come down to say bye and head back to the city. Finally around 1:30 I called his cell and he was on his way to my house for that reason. He stayed about 30 minutes and left. I went to the bank and Walmart shortly after he left and picked J and I something for supper. Played my game on FB and went to bed. Didn’t get up until 7 this morning and since I slept so late I wasn’t feeling too great. Made coffee and drank a cup and then got in the shower. Ahhhh yes, felt better. Walked outside and temp was kind of balmy. A good morning to burn more yard debris. So the day outside began. I got a lot done today and the best thing about it was that I actually got the Tulip bulbs planted. I had a couple of ideas of how and where I would plant them but ended up cleaning out the big tire that had beautiful flowers in it this summer. That turned out to be a huge job but I got it done and planted the entire package of 40 bulbs in the tire. Covered the bed with mulch and put wire over the top to keep the squirrels and kitty out of the bed. Moving on to another location where I had green peppers in planted in plastic tubs over the summer and they did excellent. Well the green peppers did great but the tubs were on their 2d or 3d planting season and they were breaking apart. So the tubs were broken some more, the pieces put in the trash and the dirt spread out over the area. Hmmm. I’d found a small package of lily bulbs that are several years old but I thought, hey, why not so I did some more ground work, dug a hole for a small tire, and planted the few bulbs in this small space. Added mulch, added wire over the top and my body is like, ARE YOU DONE? Nope. I cleaned the front flower bed and added mulch to it next. Kept stirring the burning stuff and got a lot of leaves burnt around the concrete slab. Then decided to dig up some other lilies that were just choking themselves and way too thick. I threw all the dug up ones away in the trash. Tons of them. I try to thin them or pretty much have to thin them every other year. Sometimes it happens in the spring this time in the Fall and I was tired of them and them spreading and spreading.

Oh and I finally named the black kitten. Shazam. The calico kitten I end up calling Tri. Tri only come up to the house in the mornings and the evenings and during the day I think she goes back to the barn or barn lot. Shazam, so far, doesn’t go with her and stay independent of each other until the sun goes down. Then they eat and it’s play time!

Pretty boring entry I have to admit but that’s how it happens down here on the farm.

Take care and God Bless

We have been preparing our yard for Winter also. We don't have a farm but have land so it is a lot of work. Can't believe that's it time to do this work though! Where did the Summer go?
