If you're using your cell phone or a point and shoot you really won't be able to take great pics at night because it's all about the glass (lens). Even if you have a $3,000 camera, pics at night may not come out well for the same reason. Of course with a professional dslr you have options to widen the aperature, slow the shutter speed etc... but if you don't have the right lens the camera will struggle to find focus and your photograph will be grainy. Best to use your flash or take a photo in an area that throws light onto a subject.

Thanks. I have a pretty good camera but I really don't know a lot. Trying to learn and would love to take a course sometime.
