The Day in Just in Case

It feels like it’s been a long week, and it’s only Tuesday. Yesterday was horrible. I was exhausted and the kids were…nuts. (They’re a little like lions, they sense the weakness and go for the jugular.) Allergies or a head cold keep popping up to say hello, and I felt awful yesterday. Ok so maybe it was just a few kids in one class, it just felt like they were all bad. I had to get to school extra early, I wasn’t supposed to teach yesterday, our DARE officer was going to be teaching all 3 classes in my room, and she had to take the day off, so I had to go in and get things set up to teach, then I had some things I had to do late after school. So a very long day. Today was the first day of the after school science group that I became the sponsor of. So, another long day. With one exception, though, the kids were on fire today. That always helps. The one child was ok for the first half of the day. Then he lost it and threatened another student, he was stopped completely before he could hurt the other kid (he made a poor choice and chose one of our biggest kids who could have hurt him) and the administration backed us completely, which is always refreshing and helpful. The after school club was great, the kids loved it and that made it all worth it.
I had a good time this weekend at the ntl hunting and fishing day event. Lots of my kids were there and several won nice door prizes. It’s always fun to here one of my kid’s names called. (There were about 1500 kids there and about 75 things given.) So the three of us visited all day, then went for frozen yogurt and sat around for another almost 4 hours talking.
Then yesterday I got a call that one of my best friends had lost her brother. He drowned in Florida. She still doesn’t know if it was a business trip or if he and his wife were just taking a quick trip. Their sister has a condo there, but they weren’t staying there. (There’s a little bit of stress between the siblings because of how his wife treats them all.) They are doing an autopsy because he was found in the water. They aren’t sure if he drowned or if he had a heart attack. The sister that has the condo down there headed down with her husband immediately to be with the sister in law and their kids headed down right behind. (The daughter had gotten married about a month ago.) My friend was driving the hour to her 84 year old mother’s house to tell her what happened. I can’t even imagine that. I made sure that I told my sister about it, and about the fact that they had let the way their sister-in-law acted keep them from spending time with their brother. I don’t know if the situation is what caused it, but she talked to Bubba today for the first time in 6 months or so. I am hoping it was a step in the right direction.
Tomorrow is our first field trip. It’s going to be a hot, long day. Then, the day after that is parent-teacher conferences, so another long day. The good thing is that next week is a 3 day week for us. So, if I can just hang in there. I feel like it’s one of those years where it’s just about getting to the next break. Now I’m just looking forward to catching up on sleep.

I am not a big supporter of hunting but if you eat the meat I find it more acceptable. I despise trophy hunters. I also despise trappers. That is just plain cruel and it should be illegal.
I have been cracking up lately because we have new people in our subdivision and they are freaking out about the coyotes and a family of red foxes we see frequently ; also the deer that feed in the park area by the lake. Some jerks made comments like they planned to shoot them so I forwarded their names to the city police and the Dept of conservation. It is illegal to shoot anything in the city limits . It never ceases to amaze me how ignorant so many people are :-(

For many in this area, hunting is how they feed their fsmily. And, for others, they by because they know the meat isn't full of hormones and chemicals. There's a big difference between a huge get and. killer. (ThT being said, I much too much a softie to hunt myself lol.)

How awful about the drowning!! Sorry to hear that.
Kids sure do know when situations are tense. They know when and how to push those buttons don't they! Lions they are!!
