Generalizations in Day by Day

It’s hard not to take it personally when someone bashes Christians. Joel Osteen and his church were never designated as a hurricane shelter. Other non-designated churches who who opened up did so without proper sanitation or food supplies and now they too are being raked over the coals, so it’s damned if you do or damned if you don’t in my opinion.

But what REALLY topped the cupcake was the comment that “Christians are greedy”. Really? I don’t think I’m greedy or the people who donate on a regular basis. Do you donate 10 percent of your income? I donate 25%. Is that greedy?

Don’t generalize. About anybody. Thinking I may have to cull my friendship my friend list.

Still praying and donating for the victims of the Texas hurricane.

It's easy for everyone to point their fingers at someone else so they can distract blame from themselves.

This is a devastating situation for everyone involved. I have family members in TX and watching their videos and seeing their posts kill me because I can't do anything to help them. I just don't have anything to offer aside from my hands and a place to stay.

The old adage "if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all" needs to be used by a lot more people. This country is really sickening sometimes.

ConnieK Chic Chat ⋅ August 31, 2017

I think it's just a matter of people thinking that they know everything about every subject under the sun. There will be a lot of praise and a lot of criticism in the days to come. Some will be justified, some will not. But I think we should all wait until we have all the facts and can see the entire picture before we start picking it apart. My post was really in response to several posts and a nasty little comment all of them veiled criticisms of Christians in general and that's all it was. A few people with either very large egos or very thin skin took it personally and I don't have time for that nonsense.

👏👏

You couldn't have said it better!

Flyte August 30, 2017

The best thing I have seen on Facebook recently was "I talked to God this morning. He never asked what Joel Osteen was doing. He asked what I was doing". More people should quit criticizing and take care of their own business.

Bird of Paradise Flyte ⋅ August 31, 2017

Amen!

ConnieK Flyte ⋅ August 31, 2017

Perfect response!

GypsyWynd August 30, 2017

I agree wholeheartedly. Just because his church is a large building doesn't mean it's equipped as a shelter, or was intended as one. But people always look for someone to blame.

ConnieK GypsyWynd ⋅ August 31, 2017

Well if they're going to blame someone they could blame the governor of Texas but I think it really is too early to blame anyone. People should wait to find out all the facts before taking cheap shots. I think it's kind of funny that some people think I single them out when it really was a response to something totally different. Guilty conscience?

Eriu August 30, 2017

People responded to an emergency situation, trying to help. They shouldn't be criticized for that, for wanting to aid people with need RIGHT NOW. There's a dire situation going on which is so much more important than petty criticisms.

ConnieK Eriu ⋅ August 31, 2017

I agree with you. I think the popular bandwagon of bashing one group of believers is the silliest thing I ever saw in my life. The governor of Texas did not provide for enough shelters. That isn't Osteen's problem that's the governor's problem. I think this is just an excuse for non-believers to take a sheet cheap shot at believers.

I would like to recognize the Islamic society of Houston, which opened 21 mosques for anyone needing shelter, food, and basics:

That includes one located in a strip mall:

Also, more than 100 members of Muslim Youth USA, and 40 members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association, have passed out food, water, and other supplies in Houston:

Please see this info about Osteen:

I do not generalize, but I know hypocrisy when I see it, and I refer here to one man.

I like you.

I love hearing about what other groups are doing. Thank you for sharing that. I don't have time to read your link since I'm still on vacation, and I really don't care about the bashing of Osteen. I've never really followed him and don't really care what he is or isn't doing. I just think people don't understand how much work and how much bureaucracy goes into preparing a hurricane shelter that does not turn into a Katrina disaster. I realize everybody thinks they're an expert on everything nowadays but in this case Osteen may have had some very valid reasons for not jumping to open the church doors. I leave that between him and his God and I think that others should just worry about what's going on between them and their God. I think if everyone took this attitude the world would be a much better and happier place to live.

Ragdolls August 31, 2017

I so agree with you about this appalling finger pointing at Christians in general. But I guess it's easy to sit in dry comfortable surroundings and judge people. Shameful, isn't it?

ConnieK Ragdolls ⋅ September 01, 2017

I'm not posting my opinion to bash others. I'm simply nding against unfair bashing.

Ragdolls ConnieK ⋅ September 01, 2017

I didn't think that at all. And I should have said thank you for explaining about the steps a facility must take to be a shelter. Many people don't think of that (me included). My second comment was about others "armchair criticism" of the Osteen situation. I'm glad that you talked about it here. My only experience with a weather disaster has been tornadoes that have hit my area. I can't imagine the horrific situation in Texas. My brother in law's twin sister & her husband live in Houston and were trapped in their attic for several days until 2:20pm yesterday when they were finally rescued. They've lost everything. The family here were besides themselves with worry because no one could get in touch with them till last night.

ConnieK Ragdolls ⋅ September 01, 2017

Oh, sorry. I didn't mean that YOU were bashing, just that I don't want to fall into doing the same as what the Osteen haters are doing. Truth be told, I'm not an Osteen fan, simply because I don't believe in "prosperity" gospel, but I do not believe the man is evil or has done wrong. I see my note was somehow altered. What I dictated (but apparently did not post) was "I'm simply DEFENDING against unfair bashing".

Glad to hear your family was okay, but sorry to hear of the great loss. My husband and I are agreed: Category One, we pick up the yard but don't board windows. Category Two, we board up and weather the storm, Category Three or above, we evacuate, regardless of what the governor says.

The hubs and I were just talking about this last night!!! In HUGE events it is much easier to point fingers at someone with blame. It's absolutely disgusting and embarrassing.

ConnieK Reading_Blankie 📚 ⋅ September 01, 2017

I don't want to resort to name calling in retaliation. I'm just sticking up for my own faith and those who I know to be generous and loving people.
