Mentally prepping to tackle another go at a composition I've had stuck in my head for months. This one, measuring 32in x 16in, was the first go, and it didn't come out quite the way I wanted.

The details on this piece are spectacular, but the overall impression is lacking.

There is a feeling,
going into this work,
of fall down and get back up,
dust it off
and do it again.
There is a feeling
of being
older wiser but mostly
calmer and
doggedly worn,
like favorite jeans,
the thrum of
a well primed and warmed
engine
running on love of the craft
and oiled with practice
throbbing
thudthud-thudthud
unheard except
in my own ears,
rumbling in my chest.
This is the long haul,
the slow melting into
the work
quiet, hidden,
a test of patience and skill
un-celebrated strings of
trial and error;
this is the part
I live for.
