Nobody’s Fool

But still your voice
Sings ever true,
And now your soul
Gleams ever blue.

Fade tonight.
In silence I do bear.
Fade tonight.
Your highness I declare.

Hold on for now, dove,
All we need is hope.
Can your whispers fill rooms
While clinging to this rope?

No rapture can debate
This thin ice you still skate.

No bastardizing lashes
To the scarlet stained masses.

Again you call out the names
Of the souls you ill protect.
No slow whispers calling through flames,
Only dirty fingernails on the perfect.

Please hold me down,
Give me reason to rebel;
Watch me stand through all
And come out fresh and well.

One last breath,
The air comforting and cool,
The long walk down a waning path,
All have left but `nobody’s fool’.
