January Rains

On a January night,
The rains fell,
Allowing the air
To be clean again.

The lightning flashed,
The thunder roared,
Purging the Earth
To make ammends.

Raindrops still fall
From the sky, crying;
Music whispering behind me,
Windshield never drying.

My shirt is wet,
But was it from the rain?
Masking my sadness,
I let emotions drain.

Excited to see it again,
Embracing the rain from above;
Equating rain and tears,
Inquisitive of worldly love.

Questioning my beginnings
And endings, like this storm –
I’m ashamed at my short-falls
And the faults from which I was born.

The rains will end
And bring a sunny day,
But tonight I’ll sleep soundly
Letting depression decay.
