The Will of Two

Shattered glass,
Noise and fear –
Blood around,
Still wet from tears.

Battered bodies
Shaken heads –
Thankful tonight
There is noone dead.

Across the room, “I love you,” was yelled.
Screams of fear
And pain swelled.

Hopeless and waiting
She stood by his side –
Speaking to the lifeless
Emotions must hide.

The pain stricken deep
From the guilt she possesses,
The guilt overcoming
To this end she obsesses.

The injuries hurt
But death would have killed –
My prayers were answered
And thoughts were willed.

Sleepless nights,
The ‘mares still fearing –
Awake, still shaking
Her arms still steering.

Through her mind
I see it all –
Through his mind
I feel the fall.

Over and over
Again relived,
Thankful for sanity –
Only wounds to mend.

To home soon
His father will come
His mother will leave,
Girl still undone.

What-if’s to what-now’s,
The moods must shift –
Moving farther along
With their love, their gift.

Closer together
Is where they’ll be.
When dust settles
The tears will be happy.

The guilt will leave
The scars will remain,
But happiness overwhelms
Leaving no thoughts in vain.

The will of him
Intact and determined
Preserving his life
To keep loving and living.

The will of her
Still soft and sad
Afraid of desertion
Of the love she had.

The will of two,
Sailing this protected cove –
Closer now
Than we’ll ever know.

The will of two,
Destined from above –
Explained heartfully and only
By undying love.

Dedication:
To Megan and Jeremy – May the love that
you have surpass all the pain you have suffered.
The physical wounds will heal and the emotional
scars will become merely memories that you’ll
cherish forever.
