Remembered

Down to those last minutes
Of time in faith, last tried.
Two years ago, today,
The last words of some strained – I cried.

Swept, living in arms of fire,
Some leapt to scarlet buriels;
Some consumed by toxic fume –
Still others later found
Laden by stolen hope – at last exhumed.

Today marks a memorial
To those that perished unwilling;
And those remembered by plackard
For selfless blood spilling.

Tonight the living still hold on
To the loved ones unrighteously lost
On a darkness strickened day in September.

I can’t see New York anymore
As the way out is cluttered;
The legacy remains unshattered
Of those simplistic and great.

One day the losts’ names
Will once again be uttered.
