Drowning

My soul came to play today
But found only the rain
From your face.
Crowding out the sand;
Flooding the dams
That protect us
From the splashing haste.

A fierce calm settles in;
The ferocity only known
By those who know the rules to this life.
From the inside I’m drowning.
When will I wake up from this dream
Of being pulled under by the tears
Dropping from your eyes?

Can it be?
Can someone feel so deeply?
So much so that they drown
In their own hopes and desires?

With the flood gates open
And the dreams washing away;
Together we’ll take the mountain path
And forget this drowning day.
