We had quite a scare with mom. A little background on mom.....she just turned 80 and is the sassiest, spunkiest person I know. She is a two time cancer survivor, breast cancer in 1990 and kidney cancer in 2005 which resulted in surgery to remove her kidney. Once her kidney was removed, she was put on medication for high blood pressure since that was a side effect of the loss of her kidney. It was a really low dose and her blood pressure has always been under control......until last Tuesday. She had a really bad headache in the back of her head so she went to the doctor and her blood pressure was up, I think around 158/85. The doctor increased the dosage of her medication but by Thursday, she felt worse and by Friday morning, the pain in the back of her head was intolerable. Back to the doctor she went. Her blood pressure had climbed to 220/100. They called an ambulance and she went directly to the emergency room. The doctor called me at work, told me what was going on and I bolted out of work and raced to the hospital, praying the entire way.

While driving, I called my aunt and Princess and they both met me there.after blood tests and cat scans, tests to see if she was having a stroke or had a loss of kidney function in the other kidney, ekg’s and eeg’s, there were still no answers. They introduced a new bp medication and in a few hours, it was down, not normal, but down enough for me to take her home.

Yesterday was another bad day for her…the increase in the meds and addition of a new med made her terribly nauseous and her head was still bad. As the day went on, she seemed to feel better and by today, she is almost her normal sassy self. I took her out to breakfast and she ate and ate and then a quick trip to the grocery store which wore her out. I brought her and her groceries home and she said she was going to take a nap. She has been sleeping for a few hours. Her body is exhausted.

Just praying for continued good news and patience, not for me, for her and healing.
