At the Chinese new year's performance today:
CS: looking at my camera at the end of the performance I guess you have about two hundred pictures in there?
Me: Three hundred and forty.
CS: Wha-- Why do you have three hundred and forty pictures?
Me: To get ten that are worth anything.
Because that's how I work. I know that a lot of the stuff I do won't be up to scratch, so I just go ahead anyway.
Nobody needs to know what trick the magician didn't manage to do on the stage; they only see what he did do.
So I'm free to take shots that almost certainly don't work, to take shots that end up a beat before or behind that perfect moment, because you won't see them. And if I manage it once-- just once-- the result is awesome.
