Last night I popped down to the high school to watch and shoot the first off-book run through of their Spring Play, Annie Get Your Gun. They weren't running lines, so much as blocking for the dance numbers. At least, for the two and a half hours that I was there, that's all they were doing.
It's a fun group of kids, and for the first half hour, I tried to be really unobtrusive. Partly, because I didn't want to be a distraction to the choreographers and the director, and partly because every time one of the choir kids saw me, they'd mug for the camera.
But then I realized that as long as I was trying to be a ninja, they were trying to out me, so then I just started walking into the middle of things, and, like infiltrating a pack of mountain gorillas, or a tuxedo cat infiltrating a flock of penguins, eventually they stopped noticing me.
Oh look! It's the trick bird hat...
Ooh la la, it's the French delegation at the dance.
Yes I can!
No, you can't!
Yes I can, Yes I can, Yes I Caaaaaaaaaaaaan!
I'm going back when they start doing in-costume rehearsals. This is just too much fun.
