Oh my Lord. :oO !! in A New Beginning

What a sorely trying, taxing, and frustrating day this was at work! It got to the point, during Second Lunch, when my language expression was reduced to “oh my Lord,” and by Third Lunch all I could muster was “arrrrgggghhhh.” I thought that working with Brad, my favorite co-worker, might make today fun somehow, but there are some things that just cannot be made fun, and serving popcorn chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy and succotash to 900+ kids is one of them. Even being cashier (which I wasn’t, today) isn’t easy on popcorn chicken day. But it is over ‘n done with now and I ended the day with a few shreds of sanity left! By now, since I’ve been home for two hours, most of my sanity has returned. :o)
See, if every kid would just take a tray with popcorn chicken, mashed potatoes ‘n gravy, and succotash on it, it would be fairly labor-intensive but at least it would go smoothly. You’d be able to get into a rhythm! But no! In the first place, most of ‘em do not want succotash, so you only put it on if they ask for it, so you’re one point down already. THEN there are all the kids who want EXTRA chicken. Then there are the ones who want “no gravy.” And there are some won’t don’t even want the potatoes! (Who ever heard of that?!) and some who want extra potatoes. So there’s not a chance in hell of getting into any rhythm! And another thing that would help would be if you didn’t have to keep stopping to fetch more food. A big tray of popcorn chicken really doesn’t have that many servings on it, especially if everyone is asking for seconds! And the mashed potatoes run out and have to have a new pan of ‘em put in at least once per lunch, AND the gravy, AND (since we have rolls too, which thankfully, the kids take themselves) either Brad or I had to keep dashing to get another pan of rolls. And there are the people (mostly teachers) who want their food on a throwaway tray, so there’s that annoyance also. So is it any wonder I was reduced to “oh my Lord” first, and then “Arrrrrggggghhhhh”??
At one point I said to Brad, “If I see ONE MORE TEACHER, I’m going to scream.” I DID see more teachers, but thankfully I managed to not scream!
So, that was my day. In the morning before the lunches started, I also prepared two flats of frickin’ grapes. :o( That’s two flats of sixteen bags each, each bag holding three bunches of grapes.....all of these I had to wash, remove grapes from vines/stems, and then dole grapes up into little serving cups. OH. MY. LORD. I’m glad we get lots of good fruit for the kids, but let me tell ya, for my personal happiness, I do not need to do that many grapes again anytime soon! I most sincerely hope the produce man does NOT bring me grapes next week!!
But the good part about today is, physically I’ve felt great all day, and though it’s very cold and windy, it is a sunny, blue sky, beautiful day, AND HUMP DAY TOO! :o)
