She took the train in to school every morning. Well, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, she didn’t have class, so she worked at the Starbucks close to home. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, she worked at the Starbucks close to school. It was hectic. Schedules got messed up.

Anyway. The train took forty-five minutes, when all was running well. Which was most of the time. She mostly read her assignments on the train. And she sometimes watched the other passengers, covertly, out of the corner of her eyes.

She noticed another passenger, a good looking woman about her age. This woman read Nietzsche a semester after her, chewed on her pen and underlined things in her book, and even sometimes pulled out her laptop to type furiously, annoying the passengers around her. There really isn’t enough room on the train for typing.
