Meander in General

Yesterday afternoon I went over to Shaw’s. Intention being to return a RC drone I had purchased for my grandson. Shaw’s is a grocery store, but they usually have cool, inexpensive items that are good for kids.

Yeah.

That thing didn’t do anything but flash lights.

I also went to get something for the grill and supper.

Whew! I found a new stock of organic grass fed beef steaks. Kinda pricey, but I have to say that might have been the best steak I have had in five years.

Cold. No. Really cold. It was 15F as I was grilling the steak. It made it to 5F overnight.

I woke up at 4am to do the mandatory bladder clearage. Went back to bed where I proceeded to roll around under my nice warm covers until I got up.

I am surprised I didn’t take a nap today. But I suspect I will sleep like a rock tonight.

We have a storm coming. Being on the coast it is never completely clear what is going to happen. We might get rain. We might get three inches of snow. We might get a mix. We might get six inches. So the stores were crammed with people stocking up like it is the end of the world.

The drawback to the gradual cross pollination that is happening in this country. The chance we might get 3 inches of snow throws too many people into a panic. It never takes more than 6 hours to clear the roads. And you honestly don’t have enough food in your house to last six hours? Really? That doesn’t make this an emergency. That makes you an idiot.

Talking with Dad this afternoon, he told me he was getting a little tired of the constantly being sent to the store for incidentals my mother needed for things she was baking for the neighbors for Christmas. I was smiling. My father was 22 and my mother was 18 when I was born. I don’t have a single friend who has managed to hold onto a relationship that started that early and has lasted.

I am smiling, because I am lucky. They have a relationship that works over decades. She demands, he huffs and puffs and does it anyway.

Nobody analyzes why it works. They are the boring middle class white couple across the street who minds their own business and doesn’t really demand all that much from society. Dad can fix anything and Mom can cook anything. And sew anything.

To a degree it makes me worry about how dysfunctional society is becoming. There are women who can’t cook or fix anything, and men who can’t fix anything and can’t cook. There is a niche part of society who are very good at one thing. And a very small portion of society who know just enough about many things.

My buddy Glenn is the product of very elderly parents. He was dash last out of five. His father was old when he served in the Army in WWII. Old being he was in his thirties. I have no doubt that dude could build a car out of coke cans.

I have a friend who has been welding at GD/BIW since we graduated from High School.

He seems to be happy in that life. Me on the other hand would be bored out of my gourd.

This has kind of turned into a meandering entry, because I never really know what I want to say until I start saying it.

I have an appointment with the owner of the flight school over on Brunswick Landing. I’m not committing to anything, and the weather being what it is. I am going for the orientation flight sometime before Christmas. That is my Christmas gift to myself. Just to see if I can get somewhat disentangled from this incredible inertia that seems to be holding me down.
