over the weekend i finally was able to see hamilton.
not sure if you know anything about it or not.
its a musical that is on broadway in new york city that has made some major waves for broadway productions in the last few years.
here is a general overview of the musical.
hamilton: an American Musical is a musical about the life of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, with music, lyrics, and book by Lin-Manuel Miranda.[1] the show, inspired by the 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton by historian Ron Chernow, achieved both critical acclaim and box office success.
the musical made its Off-Broadway debut at The Public Theater in February 2015, where its engagement was sold out.[2] The show transferred to Broadway in August 2015 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. on Broadway, it received enthusiastic critical reception and unprecedented advance box office sales.[3] in 2016, Hamilton received a record-setting 16 Tony nominations, winning 11, including Best Musical, and was also the recipient of the 2016 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album and the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. the prior Off-Broadway production of Hamilton won the 2015 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical as well as seven other Drama Desk Awards out of 14 total nominated categories.

i bought the hamilton ticket OVER a year ago.
mind you i said ticket! one ticket.
they were bought in october 2015.
i had heard about the musical prior to that with all this hype about the musical.
i had heard even president obama also went to this musical among plenty of famous people but besides all of that hype actual people were paying thousands of dollars for these tickets. regular people like me.
however i never paid that nor would i.
at the same point the musical was in fact mostly sold out since last october 2015 as we are now at the end of october 2016.
there were no standard tickets available at all. i looked for 2, 3, and 4. i was not going to pay 2 or 3 times the price for the tickets so i just found one.
what was i to do? not go?
only one ticket at the regular rate and with that i had to wait one year to see the play!
saturday rolled around and at first i was not going to go.
i was tired. i had a rough week with the deliverable crap and was beyond drained.
but i got up anyway and i went. btw on the train there i realized that i did not have a ticket. i never bothered to check my ticketmaster app (the ticket was on my phone for a year) until on my way into the city. my app on the phone said “print at home”. i was like WTF what do you mean print at home? usually if you have the ticketmaster app then you can automatically use that as your admission. apparently this is not the case for hamilton. i called the theater and explained the situation but they said. just called ticketmaster and tell them to leave the ticket at the theater.
fair enough. once i got into the city i watched maybe idk 7-9 blocks to time square. the theater is over there. they are doing some major vamping of times square and its a total disaster attempting to walk in the area. i am sure revamping for all the toursists but -------its really come a long way.
when i got there - there were already hundreds of people on line. it was 45 minutes prior to show time. i was like oh great. i have to wait on line? but i did not :)
since i was collecting a ticket i was on the short line and did not have to wait. interesting enough when i went to the box office there was another line that was next to it. who knows maybe 50 to 75 people on it. what was that line for?
it was the cancellation line!!!!!!! people were waiting to see if anyone cancelled their tickets or if there were open seats. i have never seen that before. not in that capacity anyways. so i got in and got myself a drink. settled in and what not. put the phone away.
what i can say is for a musical to be about actual historical events such as:
alexander hamilton - a caribbean - yes caribbean male who worked his ranks up to working with general washington to becoming the treasurer of the united states - the very first treasurer when this country was being formed from inception. a caribbean making something of himself. he was born an orphan, who was in fact an american but born in the british west indies made a name for himself in america at an early age.
i do not want to get into the history of the musical to ruin it for everyone but you can read about him here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Hamilton
you will also learn from reading that about some of the other main characters including general who became president george washington, thomas jefferson, aaron burr, james madison, king george from england, marquis de lafayette to name a few. there are other things about hamilton. good and bad.
i never read much about hamilton or about the synposis of the play. i just went is all.
however i was blown away.
i can tell you it was probably the best play i have seen thus far in my life.
the acting, the singing, the story line and how it was conveyed, the music, the words.
it was genius!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! most of the play was conveyed in words but musically using hip hop. some of the songs they used (if you know the songs) were hip hop songs, not with the curse words but parts of the songs.
it was done so eloquently i kid you not.
interesting enough and i am not throwing shade but 80 percent of the audience was white.
the characters and actors/actresses playing these roles of these historical events and people were all different shades of color.
white, black, latino.
the thing is----------you looked past the color.
even the things they were discussing reminds me of what is going on today with our own poltical race in the us.
even with them in period costumes, what they discussed, argued, portrayed was like today. it was honestly beyond clever.
you think well hip hop? it was like a spoken word sort of hip hop. it blew me away. you could understand what they were all saying.
very out of the box. this play MADE you look past color.
it may you think.
about actions
about consequence
about taking your shot when you need to
about moving ahead in life
about american history
about americas orginal relationship with the brits.
and how life was back then when this country was formed.
just about alot of things.
the actors and actresses sang as if it their last NIGHT on stage.
it was fuckin amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i was going with the beat of the music and flows the entire time.
some parts made me laugh and others made me very sad.
we all gave them a 10 minute standing ovation.
it was well deserved.
i went to already look for the tickets to see if i can take the family. they have to see this. i am glad i got up and went.
the play is sold out till may 2017 and tickets are being sold by brokers or other people that bought tickets maybe scalpers for three times the price. some of those tickets are going for $2000.00 a piece or more. I got my ticket at the standard theater rate but I had to wait a year.
if you are looking for a different kind of art form especially for musicals i highly suggest you see this musical if it is in your area.
i can guarantee if you are open minded you will 1000000000000000000% enjoy this play and will be thanking me for giving you a heads up.
