Family Fun in Diary

I went a whole month without writing a blog entry, and now I seem to be writing every day. I’m mainly catching up on the month’s worth of stuff that I’ve been doing, into the groove.

I went up to visit my family for August Bank Holiday weekend. The weather was surprisingly nice so we made the most of it by going for a walk both days; once to Crummock Water and once to the beach at Maryport. Both just gentle strolls as Blue was so ill and had no energy. It was the last time I saw him so I’m glad we got to spend some nice time together. Here are a few photos of the two walks.

Mam on a bench with dad and Blue in the background.

Crummock Water.

A big old boat.

I like the layers on this; sea, sand, pebbles, different types of seaweed, rocks and grass. Mam and Sonja are in the photo.

Majestic Blue.

Eleanor on the beach, with Scotland in the background (right hand side on the photo, you can just see the rocks.)

Eleanor, my niece.

During the weekend we also had a night in the pub, and we went to visit my grandparents one morning. They’re finally back in their own home after they were flooded out in December; the second time in six years. The first time they were out for six months, but this time took even longer because the insurance company was dragging their heels and the builders kept disappearing for weeks at a time. So it’s great to see them back home again and happy.

Two weeks ago, mam and dad came here for a weekend! Dad has to keep going to the hospital in Liverpool every few months to make sure the tumour in his eye is still shrinking. Good news is that it is, but what I only found out a couple of months ago is that, as the tumour shrinks, it’s damaging his retina so he’ll eventually lose all the sight in his right eye. At the moment, parts of the tumour have broken off and are floating around in his eye, so he has to go back to have them vacuumed up. Not good news, one thing I always remember about dad when he was younger was that he always had perfect eyes and could see for miles.

As the hospital is halfway here, they decided to come down and spend the weekend with us. So we went to see a Rolling Stones cover band. They were really good! The lead singer was called Nick Dagger and they were acting as if they were actually the Rolling Stones saying “We wrote this song” and “This was a big hit for us.” and he was doing a proper impression of Mick Jagger. There are so many songs that I didn’t even realise were by the Rolling Stones, such as Ruby Tuesday and Paint It Black. Here are the four of us, I have no idea what Jay is doing here.

News on Jay’s job search; he’s still got lots of interviews. I think he has six lined up for next week so he’s doing well. He sent the appeal letter to the people who fired him. He basically kept most of what I’d written and just tweaked it slightly. They’ve acknowledged receipt so we’ll wait and see what they have to say.

I'll tell you what Jay is doing, he's having a glorious beard :D

Glad to hear he's got so many interviews lined up! He's clearly good at applications! Hopefully one will pay off now.

I don't like his beard! I keep asking if he's going to wear it when we get married and he says he hasn't decided yet...

Yeah I think he's had three interviews so far, and with another lined up he's bound to be offered at least one of them :o)

Love the photos :) you all look really happy and/or cute (in the case of Blue and your niece).
Fingers crossed for Jay! He has been hitting those applications hard from his interview rate.

Thanks :o)

Yeah he's been making it his full time job, spending all day every day looking and applying for jobs. He's doing well, I'm impressed given his mental state.

Great news about Jay's job search, I was worried he might slip into a bit of a funk but he seems to be getting on with things which is fab.
Love the pics too :)
