Piper McKinley 11/17 @ 10:36 PM 7lbs 3oz 20.25 Inches EDD - 12/1

I never wrote my birth story here but I think a lot of people followed me on here during my labor!

I was being watched throughout because I had protein in my urine that kept going up. I started out with protein in my urine so they kept a close watch. I got married at 27 weeks 5 days. Right after the wedding my protein level went really high so I was being seen weekly by the OB and MFM and then twice weekly for NSTs. I had steroid shots at 32 weeks just in case.

Doctors started talking about inducing at 36 weeks. I was completely not ready. My protein level was now somewhere close to 5,000 (over 300 is considered high). My blood pressure had started to go up at this point as well. At my 36 week appointment I saw Jaime, a nurse practitioner that I love, and she sent me to the hospital to be monitored because my BP was like 150/90s. I went home and cried a lot because I was afraid I wouldnt get out of the hospital for weeks. I snuggled my puppies, packed my bag, and headed in. I was there for 2 days and spent so much time crying. The doctors would tell me I could go home and then that I had to stay. It was miserable. I ended up convincing them that I would stay on strict bed rest and monitor my blood pressure 4x a day if they let me go home.

I got home and was on bed rest for about a week and a half. At my NSTs that week they told me they wanted to induce again. I cried again because I was feeling mentally and emotionally not prepared at all. Dr. Leeman had a heart to heart with me and told me that I would not ever be prepared and that it was going to be okay. The other level in my blood and urine that they were watching and dropped but was just out of the normal range, not enough to have to induce me, so I went home! 2 days later I had my 37 week appointment and my bp was a little bit high again (but had been great at home). My appointment was with my favorite doctor, Dr. Wessman, and she told me that because I had an NST in the morning I could go home but if anything was off in the morning she was going to keep me and induce me. I said, great, now Im nervous and it will be high! She smiled and winked...that was her plan! So, I went home and packed my bag and mentally prepared for the next morning to be induction time.

My NST was perfect. Baby looked great and my bp was fine. At that point she asked me what I wanted to do. I said, I have been cheating the system long enough and I think its time to just do this! So, my induction started that morning 11/13. I started with miso pills. I did 6 of them about every 3-4 hours depending on my contractions and stuff. Those did not dilate me at all. I might have been like 1 after that.

The next morning that plan was to insert the balloon. That was SOOOO painful. The speculum that they used to put it in they call, "big Bertha," which I didnt know until after and I didnt see until after but that thing made me cry. It hurt soooo badly! That was in all day Thursday and came out on Thursday night. I think I was 3 cms at that point. Over night on Thursday-Friday I had Cervadil. That made my vagina burn, a lot. I explained to the doctor that the best way I could describe it was that I had had too much sex....that type of burn. That came out and I think I was still 3.

Friday I had the balloon inserted again (this time my favorite doctor was on again and inserted it with her hand and had given me nubain....muchhhh better!). That ended up falling out over night Friday-Saturday but just stayed in my vagina. So all night I felt like I had to pee really badly but couldnt. When she took it out I peed like 28 oz or something. After that I was 5 cm I believe. Oh, the second balloon was with pitocin. They left the pitocin going throughout the day on Saturday and I went back to 3-4 cms. Saturday night they turned the pitocin off and told me I could go home. I said, nooo way...I am not leaving this hospital without a baby. They gave me a break from pitocin and I took a shower and walked the halls for an hour or so before they started again, late Saturday night.

Sunday morning my doctor came in to check me and I was 6cms. I told her that I was done with this and I was having a baby that day. I didnt care how she got it out but it needed to come out. That was around 9am on Sunday. She broke my water and the pain fairly quickly increased. I walked for a little while while I could but the contractions got very intense. I think around noon time and 7cms I got the epidural. After that I lay around and watched movies and tried to rest a little bit. My husband was with me as well as my best friend (who left around 2 pm I think). My parents came up (2 hours) to visit for a few minutes and drive back home. Around 7pm I was 9 1/2 cms but not fully effaced so they spent time flipping me around in bed and propping me on a ball in bed to try to get the baby to come down more. My favorite doctor and favorite nurse were on. They had given me until midnight before it was time for a c-section. Baby came down far enough and I started pushing somewhere around 9:15-9:20. The nurse was AMAZING and I am sooo happy my favorite doctor was on. My bed did not get broken away because they had forgotten to take the extra pad off (I complained that the bed was really uncomfortable after days in it and they added an extra pad). So, the Dr. sat on the end of the bed. Baby came out very quickly once the top of the head was out. My husband announced that it was a girl and baby was placed on my chest...she was born at 10:36pm. We snuggled for close to 2 hours. She is perfect!!!
