I’ve been training towards this for 12 weeks, building up gradually until today when I did it.

Yesterday I worked out my route (blimey, for those not on Facebook I haven’t told you about the trials i was having with GPS which inspired me to run naked (not without clothes you fool, without tech!!!!) so without the endomondo lady telling me how far I’ve run I have to plan carefully). I sat in the living room, eyes closed and pictured the route, each path and turn, road crossing, park and lake. This morning I went to the loo twice so that I wouldn’t be caught out, got ready and started to run. I felt good, I felt strong and I had to keep slowing myself down. At 5k I had a 30 second break to have a drink of water before carrying on. Running further, crossing the boundary into the next town (although it’s impossible to tell as there’s no gap between) . I crossed the railway twice and ran along side the tracks, I smiled and said hello to everyone I passed. At 10k I passed the mother of one of my old childminded kids (she was running the other way) and still I kept going. I looped into our local country park, enjoyed the relief of non tarmac paths for a while, kept smiling, kept saying hi to everyone. I left the park by the miniature railway, along the country lane and turned right, back alongside the duel carriageway.

A little further along i stopped for a snack, blackberries freshly picked (above dog wee level) and the last of my water then sped up for the final kilometer and a half.

I reached 16km at our house, but 16km isn’t quite 10 miles, I needed to add a little on. Past the house to the next block, then I stopped. I walked home. I stretched and ate porridge.

But most importantly, I ran a full 10 miles for the first time EVER!!
