Last night the crew of the Flying Dutchman were playing Nine Pins for most of the night. It rained about 20 minutes, but the thunder was remarkable.

Nothing from the hottie from upstate. She read my message and looked at my profile, but then nothing. It was just a lark anyway. but that face! I did ask another - more local gal to coffee. Just to see if there is a spark. Most of the respondents to my profile have been from woman I can’t imagine dating. I think the whole OurTime.com might have been a mistake. because now I look like an ass for not responding.

My gym has been disaffiliated from corporate and joined another network. So. Tomorrow I will try to get up early enough to make a play at a workout. I haven’t been to the gym in a month. I can’t seem to find my battle rhythm. But workout, haircut, shopping, recycling are all on the agenda.

Mireya’s birthday is next Sunday, so I guess I should start lining up the annual pizza party. Depending on the weather it could also be a pool party. This is the last year my father is willing to keep up with the pool. He will be taking the 20+ year old above ground pool apart this fall. Kinda sad. The first time I saw it was on a trip back from Saudi. I sweet talked a counter rep into changing my flight to include a layover - a week layover - in Portland when I was en route to a class in Virginia. Never underestimate the power of being polite to people who are not used to being treated politely.

If you ever want to bitch about the heat, just remember - you could have been cursed to have been born in this part of the world. We hit 127F in Prince Sultan in ‘96 or ‘97. At this point all those deployments have become a blur of misery.

In PSAB we all wore camelbacks - water containers on our backs. You couldn't take a sip from the hose without clearing it. The water in the hoses would scald you. You were never wet from sweating, and yet you always had salt rings everywhere. No wonder those people are so miserable. CVOA-4 - the carrier operating area in the Arabian gulf was worse. You got 120+ temps with 100% humidity. Muslims can have it.
