I actually like Fountains of Wayne’s version better, but the talking intro by Katy makes me get it. I now get why she is so popular. It is impossible to not fall for her just a little bit.
It has been ridiculously dry. Ten minutes of rain a week isn’t doing the trick here. Further inland everyone is complaining about the dust. We were supposed to get two days of rain this week, and that is becoming faint hope. A glancing blow by a passing cold front. What we really need is a low pressure area to settle over the northeast and about five tropical storms to run up the coast.
I am disinclined to mow the back yard. One of the modern worlds gift to coastal Maine is an infestation of brown tailed moths. Their caterpillars spray noxious little hairs all over the place and if they land on you, you end up with itchy welts that can last up to months. The last time I spent time in the back yard I found them all over my arms. The caterpillar hairs have fishhooks on the end and sink into your skin and release toxins.
As if to prove that everything in modern life isn’t difficult - I loaded two computers, a broke printer, and a keyboard into the trunk. Loaded them into a shopping cart at staples, and took them to the tech desk. No one was working there, but after a couple of minutes a manager in the middle of a phone conversation on his headset asked if I was recycling the stuff.
“Yep”
“Thanks”
That was all! I am so used to virtually everything being a huge red-ass that I actually get slightly giddy when something turns out easy.
Doing due diligence, Friday I found a job on USAJobs. It was posted on Friday and expired today. I was going over the list I realized I should get something submitted. My actual plan was to go the beach, but first things first.
It is a civil service job with the Supervisor of Shipbuilding in Bath, across the street from BIW.
Strangely, every time I met someone when I worked at BIW they would immediately ask why I wasn’t working at SUPSHIP. I never had a good answer. My skill set logically puts me there.
It is an ILS (Integrated Logistics Systems) job. I threw out every card in my deck. I clicked every veteran preference click I could. For too long I was a bit shy about playing those cards. The knife is in my teeth now.
Unfortunately USAJobs is like most of the job sites. Spend two hours filling out their bullshit questionnaires, uploading DD214, cover letter and resume. And let the crickets commence.
